Crack open Yeti Imperial Stout’s sophisticated sibling -- Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout. Although these beers come from the same clan, they have entirely different personalities. Aging on a blend of French and toasted oak chips infuses a subtle oak and vanilla character into Yeti’s already intense chocolate, roasted coffee malt flavor and hugely assertive hop profile. Who says you can’t tame a Yeti? 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2013 Second Tasting 11/6/13: Bottle. Pours dark brown with fine, pillowy, light brown head. Good retention and minimal lace. Aroma is roasted, dark malt, chocolate, mild oak and smoke. Flavor is heavy roast, chocolate, oaky finish, hint of coffee. Oak flavor is done tastefully despite use of oak chips, nice and subtle. Get even richer as it warms. Soft carbonation, medium to full body, smooth texture. Rich, roasted, mildly oaky imperial stout.

First Tasting 1/19/13: Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with two fingers of fine, light brown head. Settles into thick, pillowy cap that lasts with significant thick lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, coffee, cocoa, slightly burnt. Flavor is moderately hoppy up front, fading into roasted malt and finishing with cocoa and coffee tones. Vanilla undertones, mild bitter and slight dark chocolate that lingers. Soft carbonation, medium-heavy body, and a smooth, oily texture. A very rich, strong, and delicious beer.

Bottle, 650ml. A dark beer with minimal brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, alcohol and a hint of mint. Taste is bitter with a perfectly balanced aftertaste of black coffee. Robust bodied, smooth and with fizzy carbonation. Intense alcoholic and heavy finish full of coffee and roasted malt.

Bottle, 65cl. Opaque dark brown with a frothy/creamy brown head. Deep aromas of roasted malts, dried fruits, wood, alcohol. Full bodied with moderate to fizzy carbonation. Rich and creamy. Medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter. Fiery roasted and hoppy character into a stinging alcohol finish. Superb.

Bottle at THT thanks to RandomstrangerNL to try and save the pleasure of my 3000th rating. Black with good sized light brown head. Lots of dry cocoa powder, old coffee dregs, light chalk, roasted malts, fudge, soft vanilla. There’s a bit of a strange smell too it of cotton, moldy wood and granite, but when sipping the aroma is nice. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with dry slick feel. Nice beer, though the smell is a bit of a let down.

bottle shared by a friend. poured your regular yeti colour. one of the best stout pours ever. pitch black with a creamy beige head on top. we had some powerfull barrel aged stouts before this one, so i can’t notice a big difference with the oak aged. sweet dark baker chocolate, roasted malts, dark espresso coffee, cacao nibs, charred ash, vanilla smoothness, licorice. bitter roast finish. would say this is a bit more smoother than the regular yeti.

Big bottle. Bottled on: oct 21 2015. Poured into tulip glass. Big dark tan head settles slowly. Some lacing. Beer is almost black in color. Malty aroma with notes of dark chocolate. Taste is medium bitter and lightly sweet with notes of chocolate and strong notes of oak. Medium bodied beer with average carbonation. Thicker texture. Over all a tasty beer.

650 mL bottle poured into a Kuhnhenn snifter. Bottled 10/7/2011. Originally reviewed 4/8/2013. Pours with a big mocha head. Settles to just a collar, but a nice one. Just a couple of flecks of lace. Smell has oak and lots of black patent malt. Slightly grassy nose to it. Very chocolatey. Taste has oak immediately present again, but dies down to a more standard Yeti flavor. Still very green, almost grassy. Chocolatey and bitter. A variety of bitternesses. Oak bitterness, hop bitterness, and malt bitterness. Abrasive bitterness, but nice body. Medium carbonation. All these Yeti beers have the same grassy bitterness that I don’t welcome in a stout. I get that it’s an RIS, but it’s over the top. The oakiness doesn’t smooth it out at all, just adds to it.

Echt.
