4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 26, 2008 On tap at Brouwers in Seattle.
The beer pours midnight black and beautiful with a small tan head. The aroma is a huge blast of straweberries, with some cherry, some oak, some apple, a hint of roast, and some cigar smoke. Vanilla is prominant in the flavor, along with hints of cherry and wild berries; these quickly yield to wood, cigar smoke, burst grain, bourbon, and coffee. The mouthfeel is pure velvet with a nice alcohol warmth in the background.
I would have liked to have had this served a few degrees warmer, at the high end of cellar temperature if not room temperature (note to self when serving the bottle in my cellar). And I wasnít absolutely blown away by the beer, but think that might have been more a matter of the setting and the mood (I probably was more in the mood for a strong bitter IPA at the time, though I didnít realize it) than a matter of the beerís inherent qualities. The parts of whole certainly are first rate, and they combined plenty well.
Addition. Upon a repeat performance at Brouwers, this beer lives up to its promise and then some. This time, I was in the mood for exactly this beer, and it exceeded expectations. It also blows the (fresh) regular yeti out of the water, far more mellow on the hops than the regular yeti, allowing the complexity of flavor to develop on the palate throughout each sip. Marvellous.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a VERY dark black with a thin brown head. Aroma is coffee up front with hint of malt and coffee witha finish of oak. Taste is all coffee up front, a mild malt and chocolate middle and a nice chocolate/bitter finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and perfectly carbonated. Ranges from roasted coffee, to chocolate to an oak finish. Excellent stout!

Wow! One of the best Stouts I have had the pleasure of trying. Now a big fan. Rich, thick and dark with bold solid flavor that drinks really smooth.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Gorgeous black pour with dark tan head. Light aroma for such a bold flavored beer. Everything one could want in a stout and then some. Bold coffee and oak mingle together on the tounge with an arid finnish that takes hold and doesnít let go, until you take another sip. Definitely a winner.

Let the hopping begin. A stout with a bunch of bitters? Donít mind if I do, thank you very much. This is, without question, my favorite offering from Great Divide.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Deep dark and intoxicating aromas of coffee and leather. A really dark pour. There is an explosion on the palate as this big stout odes over the tastebuds. Starts out with coffee and burnt malt followed by tobacco and earth. I have not had a better unoaked stout to date
