Much like its legendary predecessors, this Yeti is big, bold and dark.  The addition of rolled oats softens Yeti’s notoriously roasty backbone and the small amount of raisins added in the brew kettle create a unique dark fruit character.  Just as admired as those that came before it, Oatmeal Yeti Imperial Stout is a softer beast.

Bomber 2013 vintage poured a translucent dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, milk chocolate, vanilla, coffee and a hint of raisins. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla, light roastiness and light coffee with a smooth lingering milk chocolate finish.

10 oz pour from room-temp bomber into Spiegelau stout glass. Black and totally opaque. Very aggressive pour produced a moderate brown head with great lacing. Very fill bodied and very creamy. The oats make for a very smooth beer. Nose is roasty with raisins and caramel sweetness. Taste is great. Lots of roasty malts with dark fruit (raisin and plum), a little woodiness, and a big boozy kick at the end. Amazing beer.

Bottle. Clearer than most Yetis in appearance, but oddly also thicker and more syrupy. The liquid in the glass seems to inhale the stuff flowing from the bottle. The head is as dense as cookie batter and recedes about as quickly. Fantastic aroma. Rich roasted malt, espresso, dark chocolate, seared steak! Hints of dark fruits and smoke as well. The hops grant note of orange zest and pine bark, like an orange squeezed over a Manhattan. Smoother flavor than any Yeti variant. Soft touch of oats plus sweet dark fruits round out the usual Yeti hop bite. I also get bits of fruity sweetness, milk chocolate and a sweetened coffee toddy, while orange pith nibbles gently at the sides of the tongue. Oats form a waterside to lead the beer smoothly down my gullet. The body is medium-full but not heavy, like a down comforter. Booze and hops combine for a little peppery heat, but that’s all that’s noticeable of alcohol, save the haze settling over my brain. This might be my new favorite Yeti. There’s not as much flavor as in some, but more smoothness than in any.
