CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Mar 30, 2008 Bottle. Nice sweet malt aroma with heavy hop and vanilla tones. Cloudy amber color very slight lacing. Very sweet malt flavor with aftertones of candy and hops. A very good barley wine style brew. I will buy this again! FleeVT (40), Boca Raton, Florida, USA Mar 28, 2008 22oz bomber poured into a nonic. Pours a beautiful burgundy orange with a hefty off-white head that clings to the glass. Sweet berries and moderate amounts of alcohol come through on the nose with the slightest touch of hops lending support in the end. This is a sweet smelling beer that I would almost call perfumey. Slightly nutty up front with an extreme blast of alcohol that knocks your socks off. Berries and pomegranate dominate this sweet palate which finishes hot. Extremely complex beer with lots to enjoy. Feels smooth with medium carbonation and medium body. I expected the body to be lighter due to the ABV but it holds up well. A slow slipper for special occasions. GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA Mar 26, 2008 Bottle: Muddy orange/red color, good size head that faded quickly. Aroma is the smell of sweet hops and malt. Intial taste was malt and spice, then a strong amount of bitter hops! Through out the bottle it really did change flavors. It became much more smooth and easy to drink then intially. Texture was medium syrup like texture. Over all a good barley wine. I think it would of been alot better if I let it age. It reminded me of Iron Hill Sasqautch. Oxymoron (104), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 26, 2008 Pours a darker amber color with definite red hues. The beer is mostly murky and has a great head retention that remains throughout. Decent lacing. The smell is rich in sweet malt. A prolific aroma with great hints of plums and raisins. For the malt a stronger caramel hint comes to mind, but other tones are present as well. Such as butterscotch and dry cherry flavor. The taste is warm. A sweet and very complex malt is noticeable. With strong tastes of brown sugar and molasses. The malt does really well backing up the hop aroma behind it. The hops are not overpowering and I am impressed on how well the compliment each other. The mouthfeel is one of the drawbacks on this beer. I feel that the stronger phenols make it a “hot” beer taste. Understandably on its high ABV, but I would like this to be a little bit smoother. Although I bet if I were to age this a year or two, it would be outstanding. Overall a great barelywine. A little hot in the taste but a beer I would like to get more of. amishcaravan (237), Winona, Minnesota, USA Mar 26, 2008 very fruity scent with lots of hops and barley. taste is of carmel and hops and barley. a very nice taste. nice warming sensation of the alcohol. this is another fantastic beer. i would certainly purchase again. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Mar 26, 2008 Pour is couldy golden amber with a very malty aroma with light alcohol. There is also an after-aroma of toffee. Taste has a bite of bitterness and a strong malty aftertaste. There is also a taste of a scotish ale type brew. This is real good. Worth another purchase. Jblauvs (531), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 23, 2008 Redish pour, Pillowy off white head, lots of lacing. hoppy nose, slightly fruity. Oaky mouth, very sweet and hoppy. Good B wine but a little hop heavy. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Mar 23, 2008 Beautiful garnett red pour with excellent lacing and two finger lingering head. Aroma mostly of citrus hops and malt. Flavor was raspberry and citrus fruits, with a hint of wood aging. Quite hoppy, almost too much so. Palate was a bit alcoholic with a sticky finish. A bit over hopped, and alcohol was not too well balanced- but pretty tastey overall.
