The up front flavors of citrus (tangerine, grapefruit and orange) along with floral hops, make you think your drinking an IIPA. But right behind that, is a massive malt backbone and warming alcohol. Hell yeah, it’s a bit raw. It’s 85-90 IBU’s for chrissakes. A fantastic beer.

Nose has some grapefruit, chocolate, a touch of rubbing alcohol. Flavor is quite rich and sweet, with a good dose of grapefruity hop bitterness. Lots of nice barleywine notes under there that might come out with some age--tobacco, caramel, almonds. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA

Begins with a massive malt base. creamy texture and a thick oily mouthfeel. hops dominate the back end with potent pine and herb notes. the finish is looooooong and strong with loads of mediciney hops and plenty of alcohol. take it slow and enjoy. ilovedarkbeer (1333), Dallas, Texas, USA

Hoppy and malty taste with sweet fruit notes. Awesome, my personal favorite barley wine. Has notes of caramel too. Awesome! faroeviking (6023), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands

Nose of caramel and grassy hops. Bitter, buttery bite with caramel-apple. Medium body and light carb. A hoppy barleywine to be sure but now quite balanced. Good stuff. bdigital (586), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2007 Bottle pours a murky, dark amber with small white head. Strong dark roasted malt aroma and a little bit of caramel and cane sugar notes. Wonderful mouth feel. Not much in the way of noticeable hops in the taste. Tasted more like a strong ale than a barley wine. Drank this with some deep-fried jalapenos and pickles at Hot Shotz in Indy. Good brew. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2007 Fruity nose of alcohol and grainy malt. Pours a sparkling copper with ruby highlights. The lovely cascade produces a mostly lasting tall beige rocky head that leaves behind light lace. The well balanced flavor is light on acidity. The roasted grainy finish has moderate to heavy bitterness. The thick body is syrupy and soft.
