jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 27, 2006 Updated: Sep 16, 2007Bottle. Good hoppy aroma with an cloudy brown/orange body and very thin head. Flavor is very malty and less hoppy than I expected with a mix of pines and an odd almost bubblegum like taste. Hopefully aging will do this well.
Update: 2 year old bottle. Nice soapy aroma. Super smooth sweet malty flavor. Light smokey mouthfeel. Aging did this well. Previous rating - 3.6 sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 26, 2006 it’s a barleywine, stupid. 75 characters, eh... well, dirty mustard brown head, red/brown body. really piney aroma. pretty hoppy tasting, not much malt. not the thickest ever either. maybe some rotten fruit in there. TampaBeer (181), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 22, 2006 Pours a potent, deep sunset color that seems to glow with a luminescence of its own. This is an impressive barley wine. I agree, this and their Yeti Stout make them an un-ignorable brewery. bergface (57), madison, Alabama, USA Dec 17, 2006 Best barley wine Ive had. Great Divide knows what theyre doing judging by this and their Yeti Stout. The aroma is pungent and very nice. The head is about a finger tall and there is minimal but nice lacing. The aroma is sweet and citrusy, but the finish is quite bitter and full of hops. The flavor profile is initially a bit bitter and then citrusy and finshes with hops. A great driniking experience. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA Dec 15, 2006 Voluminous wafts of pine sap, orange peel, cookie dough, pears, and brandy; tense, creamy, diminutive head; spotty lacing; medicinal and seriously malty initially, impressivly hoppy, without being too harsh; loads of pine and grapefruit; creamy mouth-feel while having a warming, alcoholic finish. It has quite good balance, actually, even though it’s, how you say, B-B-Bitter. Not much finesse, but seriously good. JohnnyJ (1283), Carlsbad, California, USA Dec 13, 2006 Large tan head with good lacing. Great aroma of caramel, citrus, fruit, and strong hops. Flavor is caramel, fruit, and toffee, then develops into strong citrus, pine, floral hops. Good BW, and very bitter. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Dec 12, 2006 Dark color with a large creamy tan head, big for a B.W. Aroma of caramel, alcohol. Fairly subdued taste and aroma. Alcohol is main factor, disappointing brew. Theis (3617), Denmark Dec 10, 2006 Bottle at Byens Kro - shared with Lasse, after a christmas lunch with Eurofins. We got it for 80 kr. (usual price 120 kr), because - as they said - it was too old !!! Dark red/brown - offwhite head. Berries, sweetness, bread, high hoppy, resin, grass, citrus, nice malty, bitter.
