thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Nov 2, 2006 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that was long lasting and left behind a transparent softly carbonated orange colored body and an excellent lacing. The aroma was hoppy malty and wheat. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops sweet caramel and mildly vinous. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. starfireming (309), Richmond, Virginia, USA Nov 2, 2006 Cloudy red body, white head. Very alcoholic flavour with a hop undertone. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Oct 31, 2006 Bottled. Reddish brown color with creamy head. Sweet and mellow aroma with strong melony fruitiness, parfume, toffee and caramel. Thick bittersweet and fruity flavor with notes of melon, grapefuit and toffee. Bittersweet finish with toffee and citrusy hops. Thick an surypy, still suprisingly tasty. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Oct 28, 2006 Pours from bomber to snifter a slightly murky orange-burgundy color with a thick, dense beige head which shows superb durability. Heavy, almost continuous sheets of lacing coat the glass as it drains. Beautiful rich aromas of grapefruit and pine needles are apparent, backed by notes of caramel, malt, toasted bread and butterscotch. Mouthfeel is full, creamy and slightly syrupy with a perfect level of carbonation. Initial taste shows hints of caramel candy, crystal malt, brown sugar and toffee sweetness. However this quickly transforms into a very assertive and muscular hop presence with flavors of fresh cut grapefruit, pine and citrus rind along with an ample ethanol kick to amplify the whole experience. If you’re a fan of huge, hoppy BW’s (i.e. Bigfoot) you’ll love this baby. Great stuff!! ford9719 (369), Vilseck, Germany Oct 25, 2006 2 finger head with a beatuiful light brown color. Kind of cloudy. Has a caramel smell and very frothy. Also has a maple hint to the taste. Great beer. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 17, 2006 My review just got erased when I logged out. Grr! Here’s the shorthand version: Draft, looks like iodine, only it tastes better (I’d imagine). aroma is toffee caramel and piny hops. Flavor starts tangy, then is sweet, nutty, caramel. A bit of stinging hops. Finishes with more apparent hops, then toffee, then a bit of sourness. Very good. In slightly aged bottle form, the beer has a very delayed hoppy finish that tastes more of burnt wood than pine. Smoother as well. One of the best hoppy BWs rauchbier (2992), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Oct 17, 2006 DBF 2005. Copper bronze, thin pale beige head and gentle condition. Big sweet toffee and sticky malt balanced by resinous hops in the nose, sweet and full in the mouth with more sticky sweetness, burnt toffee, crystal malt and caramel dominating the hops that come back in the finish to provide a nice bitterness to counteract the sweet malt that still coats the mouth.
sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 12, 2006 Bottle: Dark brown pour with a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar and some pine. Flavor, smooth and malty up front with some bitterness coming through nicely on the finish. A little earthy on the tail end. Pretty good beer.
