BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Sep 5, 2006 Extremely hoppy, with a slightly sweet, syrupy mouthfeel. Very similar to Bigfoot which I love. Great barleywine for sure. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 4, 2006 Bottle. Reddish amber with a thin off-white head. Nose is hugely hoppy, sweet, citrus zest... a lovely balance of big smells. Flavor is resiny, hugely bitter, grapefruit, with a perfect amount of sweetness mixed in. Standard barleywine mouthfeel. Amazingly balanced. I really enjoyed this beer and a perfect example of the style. What made this even better is the BYOB place that I had it at. The Nook in NYC, right beer at the right place for sure. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Aug 28, 2006 A very good barleywine with a big shot of hops. The Old Ruffian pours a dark brown color with a beige head that has good retention. The aroma is sweet with plenty of hops coming through. The flavor contained more malt than promised by the aroma, which was nice and the hops were in good balance as well. If you like hoppy barleywines, then you will definitely like this one. raphael (411), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 26, 2006 first scents of maple, til the hops roll over, a gentle blending, slightly dried oats. golden head, lasts a bit. color on the brown side of ruby. numbs the tongue quickly. hops intensely bitter, a little screechy. had this in the basement for about six months, so would take a while to mellow estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 25, 2006 Reddish body, tan head, sweet, malty, fruity nose. Well-balanced flavors, fruity, malty, with a healthy bitterness that does not overwhelm. saxo (3511), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Aug 20, 2006 Bottle. Nice tan head with good duration. Color is ruby. Powerfull aroma and taste with caramel fruit and malt. henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Aug 15, 2006 Amber body, red shine, small head; Super nose, caramel, lots of fruit and other great stuff; Thin body, some carbonation, bitter; Quite long finish, bitter, simple aroma: It has the nose, but that is unfortunately all there is. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Aug 15, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Daalamar: Poured a burgundy color ale with a small off-white foamy head with average retention. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with some noticeable bitter hops. Taste is a well enough balanced mix between sweet caramel malt and bitter hops. Body is above average but could have been more full and alcohol was well hidden which is great. Overall, this was quite enjoyable and would love to have more in order to aged some of it.
