Commercial Description:
Old Ruffian is a hefty, hop-forward Barley Wine. Seemingly mellow at first sniff, with its subtle fruit aromas and complex caramel sweetness, this deep mahogany-hued ale quickly shows its true character marked by bold hop flavors and massive hop bitterness. Old Ruffian’s rich, slightly creamy, caramel malt mouthfeel balances its grapefruit, pine, and floral hop flavors, working wonders on your palate.
A mind-numbing 90 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Clear mahogany with a moderate off-white head. Very hoppy, spicy, and little sweet aroma. Very bitter, dry, spicy and the alcohol is well hidden. Fantastic.

bottle: poured clear amber with nice sustaining white head. Smells piney and malty sweet. Tastes is citrusy, lightly piney, and sweet with a nice bitterness. Mouth feel was full body. I had to keep myself from guzzling this down... becuase it was very yummy!

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear amber with a medium frothy off white head that lasts awhile leaving behind good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a piney hops with citrus and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a rich malt upfront with a pine hop in the bitter finish. Alcohol very present but not too overpowering. A very good barleywine from Great Divide.

22oz bottle.....pours a dark caramel brown with a heavy light brown head..... intermeshing of somewhat papery caramel toffee malt and citrusy hops.....flavors are biscuity malt and a nice accompanying hop bitterness that lingers on through the finish. soft fluffy mouthfeel really works well for it.

1 pint, 6 oz. bottle@Bar&Cigar, Oslo. Nut-brown colored body. Lasting offwhite head. Crisp and grainy malt aroma paired with a bold fruity and resiny hoppiness. Big malt body, toffee, burnt sugar, caramel and a tone of roastedness. Tons of bittering hops to balance; citrus, pine and resin. Full body. Thick mouthfeel. Complex finish with malts, fruits and a lingering bitterness. Great stuff.

Bomber. Pours a hazy reddish rusty amber with a thin lasting head and sticky lace. Aroma is fruity esters, big malts all the way around slight smokey meatiness- with a slight floral hop character. Caramel brown sugar and big caramel and dark crystal malts, all smooth together over lots of fruits- raisin, figs, prunes, and peaches, still some fresh hops- a bit green, slight citrus and orange. Very smooth finish- solid Barleywine. Keeps getting better with age.

Bomber (also had on tap several weeks ago). Pours an opaque red-brown with thin cream colored head, very little lacing. Smell like fermented fruit punch with a bit of hops and oak mixed in. Dark fruits in abundance, raisin, cherry, grapes, with a nice hops and pine kick in the finish. Creamy thick mouthfeel, this could be a meal replacement. Solid.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.2%. Dark orange to brown colour, hazy. Big and lasting pale orange to beige head. The sweetish aroma has notes of pine, ripe fruits, raisins and molasses. Full and warming mouthfeel. Rich flavour with loads of malty sweetness, notes of raisins, caramel, molasses and udefined fruit, while the high IBU makes itself known towards the end, through a substantial and resinous hoppy bitterness.
