Flaska från Systembolaget. Djupt kopparröd, klar, vätska. Livligt gulvitt skum, snabbt avklingande. Intensiv doftvägg med primära toner av choklad och lite tobak som sedan ersätts av sekundära aromer av russin och färska aprikoser. Hög sötma balanseras väl av beska. Stor munkänsla med lätt spritighet, vilken aldrig spårar ur. Lång eftersmak.

Bottle shared by Paul at Max’s tasting. Apparently some age on this bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a minimal white head. Aroma is huge booziness, malts and caramel. taste is sweet, slightly boozy, malty, dark fruits and nuttiness balance with a hop profile of grapefruit and pine. This seems to have mellowed with age as the typical booziness I associate with barleywine has really mellowed. Pretty enjoyable.

Bomber bottle. Aroma is a very raw barley wine smell. Malt forward in the aroma. Appearance is a dark bronze with little head to speak of. Taste hits you in the back of the throat, malty barley wine with some hops at the finish. Some hop bitter in the palate. Overall, a good barley wine. Would buy again fo sho.

'07 bottle. The aroma is pure malt, and get some toffee. The color is a nice amber. The taste is solid with some. A nice drink.

22 oz bottle, Kroger, Dublin, $6.99. Drank 5/12/13. Malty scotch brown color; nice head. This is a bit different from any barley wine I can remember; deep, sweet, brown malts all over this, almost peaty like a scotch. Description claims hop-forward but I didn’t feel that was the case; I would say this is a fence sitter that actually leans slightly malt-forward if anything. Very boozy, borderline astringent. Thick, creamy body. Would probably buy this again.

Djupt röd med beige krona. Tung doft av kola och knäck med en citrusaktig bakgrunston. Smaken är en maffig barley wine med ordentlig humling, men fortfarande balanserad.
