COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old Ruffian is a hefty, hop-forward Barley Wine. Seemingly mellow at first sniff, with its subtle fruit aromas and complex caramel sweetness, this deep mahogany-hued ale quickly shows its true character marked by bold hop flavors and massive hop bitterness. Old Ruffian’s rich, slightly creamy, caramel malt mouthfeel balances its grapefruit, pine, and floral hop flavors, working wonders on your palate.
A mind-numbing 90 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Went to a friend’s house and he pulled this one out of the fridge. Surprised I’ve never had this one before. Started the evening with an ’07 BCBS, and finished with this one. Poured my allotment into a pint glass. Pours a dark amber with a thin beige head on top. Notes of herbs, hops, citrus, toffee. The mouth is creamy and smooth, slightly syrupy feel on the back end. Semi-sweet syrup, molasses, mild bittering hops, bitter citrus rind. Really a good beer. Definitely an evening sipper.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2016 Brun /röd klar med smutsvit skum. Doftar och smakar russin och torkad frukt. Lite för spritig smak och enkelspårig för att vara riktigt bra. Mycket beska

Enjoyed on tap at Great Divide barrel room in Denver, CO while drinking a bunch of drinky dranks. Appearance is dark brown with a nice slightly off white billowy head. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel, light fruit. Taste is real good, real malty and sweet and the booze content is becoming pretty apparent. Overall good stuff.

Wow what a beer! One of the most taste intensive I have tasted. Full bodied sweetness up front with monster bitterness following. Not much aroma. Beautiful dark amber color with lots of light brown head. Man what a taste explosion! I like it!

Pours dark chestnut with big, vigourous khaki head. Big nose with candied apricots, caramel, muscovado sugar, honey, roasted cereals and pine cones. A nice balance of malt and hops here. Full bodied palate, on the sweet side but nicely balanced with some heat coming through on the mid palate, leading to a long finish with balanced bitterness. Not as bitter as I had expected from deScriptions, but that might be due to the massive malt body masking it slightly.
