Rumble IPA is an American IPA with subtle nuance. Brewed with heavy-handed additions of Pacific Northwest hops, this beer is gently aged on French and American oak resulting in a wonderful balance of bitterness, caramel sweetness, vanilla, and undertones of pine and citrus.

Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma of oak, grassy hops, sweet caramel, toffee, citrus and vanilla. Taste is sweetish, caramely and citrusy with some oak, toffee, grass and pine. Finish is sweet, oaky and grassy. A bit strange.

April 2015 bottle drunk 8/18/15.
I tried to keep up on Great Divideís beers for a long time, but they just pump the damned things out so quickly that Iíve long since kept current, but itís nice to try a new one now and again...that being said, I was curious about this one, if not so hopeful. The appearance is a lovely burnished copper, good clarity and a creamy, light beige head atop with good retention.
In the nose, however, not that it smells bad, thereís just a ton of strong, sourdough-like oakiness and even more caramel. Smells very barleywine-like to me and much stronger than a 7.1% ipa. While the PNW hops are certainly there, adding light pine, plentiful orange rind and grapefruit, all of their potential brightening edge is sunk in to the caramel and oak and it seems round, sweet and heavy.
The mouthfeel, unsurprisingly, is very supple from all of the malt; at least there are no harsh/astringent wood tannins. Carbonation seems appropriate, medium-light but nicely tight/engaging. Obviously not meant to be compared exactly as an IPA, but even taking it for what it is, itís just a lot of dull caramel sweetness, big toasted oak flavors and some misplaced bitterness and acidity from the hops. If you like over-the-top barleywines.....

Poured from 12oz brown bottle into pint glass, a mostly-clear deep amber colour with moderate beige foam. Fairly typical APA/A-IPA traits: malty, rich caramel sweetness, slightly bready and toasty, with loads of citrusy and resiny hops. A bit coarser and muskier than most, with only the slightest trace of the advertised wood-aging. Very subtle oak tannins, vanilla, a little mushy oxidation. Medium body and carbonation, bittersweet aftertaste. Decent enough and drinkable but not nearly as complex as Iíd hoped.

on tap at Dog & Bull in Croydon - nice orangey color. Hoppy aroma. Nice hop flavor that could use a little sweetness. You can pick up the oak flavor from the oak aged barrels.
