Rumble IPA is an American IPA with subtle nuance. Brewed with heavy-handed additions of Pacific Northwest hops, this beer is gently aged on French and American oak resulting in a wonderful balance of bitterness, caramel sweetness, vanilla, and undertones of pine and citrus.

From bottle. Clear dark amber with minimal head and lacing. Smells like oak and citrus. Heavy sweet oak flavor with light bitter hops throughout. A sweet, oily abrupt finish.

Pours deep orange with a small white head. Smells piney with hints of caramel and wood. Taste is bitter, vanilla, oaky, hints of sweetness. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Great Divide Rumble finishes with a soft, lingering oaky smoothness.

Pours a dark, cloudy, unfiltered amber orange color. It has little white flakes of something floating around. Creamy white thick head with insane lacing. Wow! Staring at the bottom of the glass, it looks like dandruff, but nevermind that.

I took a sniff when I opened the bottle and it was strong vanilla from the get go. But from the glass, I smell hops. Not quite as strongly as most IPAs, but very strong. Pine, orange zest. But the oak, itís there. Itís earthy citrus and earthy woody too. Not so much vanilla from the glass.

Taste is hop forward. Not so much malt, not so much sweet. The vanilla comes through at the end, and a little more sweetness would help bring out the vanilla more. But still, itís quite good to taste. I taste the orange zest, but not so much caramel. The earthy oak makes it interesting.

Mouthfeel is a little watery for such a high abv beer. Itís dry. But for an IPA itís extremely drinkable. Itís very clean, and only slightly bitter finish.

Overall, this is a really good IPA. Itís different, and itís tasty. My glass is almost empty and thereís all kinds of lacing on the glass. I gave it a swirl and it conjured up another round of huge thick head. Itís not as bitter as most IPAs, but if it were just a touch sweeter, weíre talking the perfect IPA here.

Pours hazy amber color with a small head. Pine and resin on the nose, toffee and caramel malts. Sweet caramel flavor with toffee, orange and wood. A bit weird this.

April 2015 bottle drunk 8/18/15.
I tried to keep up on Great Divideís beers for a long time, but they just pump the damned things out so quickly that Iíve long since kept current, but itís nice to try a new one now and again...that being said, I was curious about this one, if not so hopeful. The appearance is a lovely burnished copper, good clarity and a creamy, light beige head atop with good retention.
In the nose, however, not that it smells bad, thereís just a ton of strong, sourdough-like oakiness and even more caramel. Smells very barleywine-like to me and much stronger than a 7.1% ipa. While the PNW hops are certainly there, adding light pine, plentiful orange rind and grapefruit, all of their potential brightening edge is sunk in to the caramel and oak and it seems round, sweet and heavy.
The mouthfeel, unsurprisingly, is very supple from all of the malt; at least there are no harsh/astringent wood tannins. Carbonation seems appropriate, medium-light but nicely tight/engaging. Obviously not meant to be compared exactly as an IPA, but even taking it for what it is, itís just a lot of dull caramel sweetness, big toasted oak flavors and some misplaced bitterness and acidity from the hops. If you like over-the-top barleywines.....
