BeerBunker (522), Burbank, Illinois, USA Jun 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours golden with a fizzy white head. Aroma is of wheat, rice, citrus, spice, and hops. If it didn’t mention it had rice in it, I would think this beer smelled skunked. Taste is of wheat, citrus, and slight hops. There is also a big presence of rice that doesn’t dominate, but does blend well. Each sip starts off with lots of wheat and citrus, and ends with lots of rice and spice. There is a slight hop character to it, but it is buried underneath the rice. Lingering taste of spice and rice. Mouthfeel is medium and had more body that I was expecting. Surprisingly very drinkable. Trev (749), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jun 27, 2009 Pours pale gold with thin head.
Aroma is light with fruity tones and grainy. Hint of grassy hop
Flavour is a slightly sweet at first. Then alight mettalic grassy bitterness. Cavie (707), Arlington, Texas, USA Jun 24, 2009 Golden pour with a light feel. I enjoyed this one very much. It had hints of fruit in it but maintained a solid body. This one went down easy. Davetopay (19), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Jun 21, 2009 Not bad at all. I was expecting a variation on industrial lager with ale yeast. Not at all. To truly understand this beer I may have to delve into the world of high end sake. The rice is a totally new flavor and is more complex than just your average bowl of stick white rice would leave you to believe. Fruity esters abound, as well as a certain astringent nature, I think brought about by its unfiltered state. Give it a try, and make sure to have more than one as the flavor continues to evolve with every sip. skoll (89), Traverse City, Michigan, USA Jun 20, 2009 12 oz bottle pale cloudy pour, The sweet rice undertone was a pleasant surprise, but overall the beer was thin, the aroma was flat and the flavor lingered with a hoppy biterness... more aftertaste than taste. esjaygee (1260), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jun 16, 2009 Pale and dull golden yellow with a large frothy white crown. Aroma of sweet malts, grains, grassy hops and mild spicy hops. Taste of grains, rice, grassy hops and semi-toasted malt. Over carbonated with a yawner of a crisp finish. bblack99 (72), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jun 14, 2009 Nothing special here, a big letdown from my favorite Colorado brewer. Not much better than the mass-produced Miller or Busch products and with a pronounced fermented rice finish, this just isn’t very pleasing.
Fizzy and watery, there are some hints of a higher quality drink buried within. The head of tiny bubbles does a nice job of clinging.
Something different, for sure...but I think I’ll go back to my usual styles! brewski519 (256), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Jun 3, 2009 From a 12oz bottle at the Flying Saucer - this ale poured a pale gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma of lemon citrus and yeast. Watery, light hop, lemon and grass taste - worked okay though as we were sitting outside and it was in the 90’s - so anything light and cold would have done the trick - not one I would drink regularly though.. just not enough substance to it.
