Commercial Description:
Looking for something a little different? Brewed with rice and barley malts, Samurai is an easy drinking, unfiltered ale that changes the status quo for unfiltered beers. The addition of rice gives Samurai a slightly fruity, crisp, refreshing and clean taste. This is definitely not your everyday unfiltered beer.

Hazy pale yellow, creamy head.aroma is very slightly sweet, and a little ricey. Metallic slightly fruity flavor. I expected more form this one. Sort of reminds me of Budweiser, probably because of the rice used.

8.17.07 On tap at Andy’s, Bogota, NJ. I felt this was a pretty decent beer. Nothing spectacular at all but never noticed any inherent riceyness. Fair.

The 12 ounce bottle poured a slightly hazy golden yellow beverage with a small fizzy head that was mostly diminishing but left some lacing on the glass. The aroma had a hint of sour citrus fruitiness accompanied by an earthy mustiness. The body was medium with lively carbonation and a watery, astringent texture. The flavor starts out lightly sour and then, as it ages on the palate it takes on more of a light bitterness. At the end of the medium-long finish there is just a bit of alcohol warmth as well.

Decent beer. Would work as a bridge to better beers. The rice makes it taste like Bud’s cousin, albeit a much better tasting cousin.

Pours a hazy yellow with lots of rising bubbles and a dense frothy white head. The aroma is of rice, simple syrup and lightly fruity hops. Light and effervescent it finishes, crisp and fairly metallic. The flavor is of rice with a mild honey backing and a metallic finish/aftertaste. While I certainly prefer this to other rice beers that I’ve had, notably Hitachino’s Red Rice, I’d much rather drink sake. Any beer that leaves me feeling like I’ve been sucking on a penny doesn’t leave me with warm feelings.
