Commercial Description:
Looking for something a little different? Brewed with rice and barley malts, Samurai is an easy drinking, unfiltered ale that changes the status quo for unfiltered beers. The addition of rice gives Samurai a slightly fruity, crisp, refreshing and clean taste. This is definitely not your everyday unfiltered beer.

A lightly hazed blonde ale with a thin white head. A light fruity malt aroma. In mouth, a light bodied wheaty malt, grassy. On tap at brewery, 24 Jan. 2009.

12oz bottle, bottled Dec 16 08. Probably not as fresh as I’d like for this style but whatever. Pours hazy pale yellow with a sudsy white head. Aroma is very subtle. Notes of faint lemon and candy apparent but the overwhelming aroma is of nothing. Flavor is very light. Reminds me of rice pudding, the rice flavor definitely comes out. Certainly unique. I don’t know how to rate this beer. It is certainly unique and interesting but it doesn’t really do much else for me.

Tap @ Monster B’s. Cloudy blond, definitely a unique taste. I couldn’t really taste much hop or malt flavor but I ended up with a nutmeg/cinnamon aftertaste. I wouldn’t recommend a six pack of this, but it’s worth a try for a true original.

On tap at Great Divide’s tasting room in Denver. Pours a see-through, bright yellow body with a delicate, but thick white head that leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma of pale straw malts and subtle sharp grassy hops. Some peachy melon fruits. Kind of bland, but more sweet than bitter. Flavor is pretty heavily pale malt based with a bit of crisp honey. More of the fruity peach-melon combination. Touch of grass and straw feel in the finish. Palate is very crisp and light with a slight stringy feel. Overall, relatively boring IMO, but good for the style. Glad to have had on tap at the tasting room.

Crushed with Jakebra. Incredibly smooth brew. Nose stings a bit, but is also kinda nice with some good malt presence and a hint of hops. Flavor is smooth as hell, with no nast biting aftertaste. Excellent example of the style. Even though it wasn’t that great, I still enjoyed it.

Ryan/Casey’s. Straw yellow body with thin head. Corny, banana nose. Taste of hops, pine, honey. Rice taste midway through. Toasty and hoppy finish. Nice one!

bottled, very light hop aroma, mildly citrus, pours beautifully with a nice medium cloudy yellow with huge bright white head, flavor of sweet malt with hint of alcohol, hop bitter up front and lasting through taste, light hop residual on palate, not bad at all
