Jine (855), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Sep 3, 2007 8.17.07 On tap at Andy’s, Bogota, NJ. I felt this was a pretty decent beer. Nothing spectacular at all but never noticed any inherent riceyness. Fair.
kwoeltje (1180), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jul 19, 2008 (bottle) slgihtly hazy pale gold with white head. Faint malt/fruit aroma. Body is little thin. Flavor is light grain, light fruits. EithCubes (1756), Indiana, USA Jul 18, 2008 Updated: Jul 19, 2008Rating No. 850 from the US. Bottle. Near-skunky grassiness with a bit of da funk from the hops. Cloudy, very pale yellow, short white head. Thin, very crisp body, herbal/spice tones on a decent pale malt base, slight hint of caramel, with the bulk of the flavor coming from the yeast. Aftertaste is dry and my tongue was left feeling a bit chalky. Grain of paradise in there? Not worth it. bryandhargrave (157), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jul 17, 2008 i think its funny that anyone actually could pour this without a huge head. i tried. even wicked slow on a super slant, HUGE head. i dont be buying it again. after a coupe of them in a pint glass i just drank from the bottle, even then, every kick back reared a HUGE head. super cloudy. not so much on the flavour. GarrettB (368), Centennial, Colorado, USA Jul 17, 2008 Not sure where they were going with the marketing on this one, but, you know, I guess samurai eat rice to get all burly, strong and tactical. Whatever the reasoning, this is not exactly an exciting beer, even though I really love the label. The Samurai, light yellow in complexion, looks a bit like a tripel at first. The cloudiness and fuzzy white head support this observation. But the smell is markedly different from anything like a tripel. Underripe apples, sweetened butter squash and cooked pasta give it a strange carbohydrate aroma. Appropriate to beer but not exactly alluring. The taste is generically sweet with a pale lager bitterness, and the aftertaste is a soapier version of the aroma, but even blander. So, sudsy and bland. I’ll stick to a clean bowl of rice, thank you. robforbes (641), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 17, 2008 pours a hazy lemon-drop in color with a small egg shell head.
smell is slight citrus, pear, some banana, some malt, a bit of yeastiness to it also.
taste is semi-sweet up front, pear, peach, pineapple, more sour in the back, touch of wheat, some malt, and a touch of bitterness.
