3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Not too pungent, the lack of aroma hides an IPA with a hoppy kick. Not as sweet a finish as I would have expected given the relatively high alcohol %. Good and crisp with a clean finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a golden coppery color with a small white laced head. Aroma includes pine needles, hops, and citrusy grapefruit. Taste is grapefruity and piney with lots of hops present. An above average west coast IPA. Very refreshing.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a cloudy medium brownish amber with a small off-white head. Nose is full of citrusy and piney hop aromas, but also full of maltiness. Flavor. Hmm, strange balance of malts and hops. I think Iíd prefer this with less malt. Has the citrus hop flavor followed by a roasted maltiness that Iím not crazy about... finish of bitter hoppiness lingers for awhile. In the top 96% of beer? Hah! Slightly above average at best.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 17, 2006 From the bottle
Pours a murky orange amber with an ample but short-lived white head.
Aroma is sweet grapefruit and a bit of pine; the flavor is buttered crumpet with marmalade, a strongly hopped IPA with a some diacetyl and a slightly metalic bitterness that cuts in early and lasts for a long time. Mouthfeel is good, but not exceptional.
I think this one is overrated. Itís certainly drinkable, but in my book it doesnít rank particularly highly among IPAs.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, Grapevine Mkt. Pumpkin colored, off white head. Not as hoppy as I expected, but then some IPAís just hide behind their hops. And thereís nothing to hide here. I mean, this is a really wonderful stand-alone ale. Expertly blended malts and delicious in the mouth. Judged against other IPAís, itís average. Against other ales, itís huge.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Finishing hops give this beer a resiny almost syrupy mouthfeel that makes this seem heavier than it really is. Clean malts. Hops are citric and piney, the finish is medium bitter. Not very well integrated and one of my least favorite IPAís.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Severe, warming hops on the aroma of this beer: pine, orange, dried apricot. Looks decent in the glass, with a tiny bit of lacing and some lingering off-white head. The beer itself is a cloudy, dark, pumpkin orange. Big hop bite, of course, mostly of pine. The sweet finish absolves the beer of much of its bitterness - a deft beermaking move, as the IPA is not cloying or sugary. There is even a soft coffee element to the malt component of the beer. A grand IPA.
