Originally called "liquid bread," the Dopplebock style guided monks through periods of penitent fasting. Wolfgang has heavenly notes of caramel, dark fruit, and toffee balanced by a subtle hop character. While its revered history evokes and appreciation of austerity and sacrifice, this Dopplebock is a rich luxury - no repentance required.

Bottle. Really great beer. Dark amber in color with a nice head. Aroma is fruit bread and roasted grains. Taste is a wonderful complex flavor with a sweet fruit cake up front and a suprising hoppy finish.

Bomber bottled about this day last year. Subtle dark fruit aroma with caramel and some toffee. Pours caramel colored with a thin light brown head and excellent lacing. Great dark fruit, caramel and toffee malt flavors to start with a very lively, malty mouthfeel. Finishes very smooth with all of the flavors mentioned lingering on the palate long after the sip is finished. Nice doppelbock.

Bomber bottled exactly one year ago today. Served at about 50 degrees in a pint glass. Pours a clear brandy hue with moderate carbonation. Fine thick head with moderate lacing. Delicious maltiness and slight hop presence. Alcohol is well hidden. This is the best American doppelbock I have tried and find it better than some German ones.

Right on the money doppelbock, malty and mildly sweet. Dark amber/brown body, aroma is sweet malt, molasses. Nice creamy head. Taste is also mostly malt, more subdued than the aroma, but right on target for the style.

Det här var riktigt fint, smaken var kanske lite konventionell och tråkig men ändå välsmakande. Kroppen och balansen var dock i sina bästa former och det är ju aldrig fel.

From bomber. Nice rich malt aroma, raisin, plum, brown sugar and a wee bit of alcohol. Dark coppery amber clear with thin beige head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation and alcoholic warming. Starts sweet and rich, double decoction, raisin, caramel, brown sugar. Lasting sweet after. Nice doppelbock with some barley wine quality.

Pours a bright, ruby color with a slim, tan head. Strong caramel and toffee notes. Very nice. Smooth taste with some smoked caramel and toffee notes. Dark fruit with some malty presence as well. Not overpowering, but very, very good.

Tan heads fades immediately. Aroma of toffee and caramel. Taste is more toffee, dark fruit, bread, sherry. Medium palate, slightly sticky. Excellent.
