COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally called "liquid bread," the Dopplebock style guided monks through periods of penitent fasting. Wolfgang has heavenly notes of caramel, dark fruit, and toffee balanced by a subtle hop character. While its revered history evokes and appreciation of austerity and sacrifice, this Dopplebock is a rich luxury - no repentance required.

Tap. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights and average, creamy off-white head; decent retention and lacing. Aroma is bread and cookie malts, brandy, Belgian sugar, floral hops, figs, and plums. Flavor is heavy, sweet malt, dark fruit esters, floral hops, and bread; dry, lightly sweet finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Caramel roasted malt; sweet candied beat sugar, almost reminiscent of a Trappist style ale. Pretty damn good.

22oz bottle. From Julio’s liquors. Bottled on Jun 25, 2012. Flavor is biscuit malts, grain, raisins, light burnt toast. Flavor profile is toasty bread, dried dark fruit and prunes. Vienna malt has a strong presence. Slight hop in the finish. Overall, decent but nowhere near the best in style.

Bottle. Aroma of burnt carmel and brewhouse. Deep rich copper/carmel colour. Overly sweet taste with faint bitterness - cloying even for a Doppel. Thick sweet palate.

Caramel, figs, toffee, and bread aromas are very balanced. Malt driven in flavor and has hints of biscuit, fruit, and toffee. Generally not a fan of lagers but am pleasantly surprised. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear ruby amber, with creamy, off-white head. Smell is immediately rich of fresh Italian bread, and oats. The taste is rich of rustic white bread and olive oil, with hints of cornmeal, and darker fruits. I’m also picking up unsalted almond, as well. The palate is slightly sappy, with little carbonation. For a dopplebock, this is much more "liquid bread" than the darker fruitiness of most others I’ve tried.

Dark garnet color a little white head. Dark fruits, bing cherry, brown sugar, caramel. A little sweet up front with some alcohol sting, subtle bitter finish and a little of the sweet comes back. Some funkiness from the hops, a little much. Decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
