COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Great Divide’s Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti’s hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

I poured this into a glass and the room grew darker, so black it absorbs light, mocha colored head leave nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Heavy roasted malt, burnt toast, Sumatran coffee, unsweetened baker’s chocolate. Thick & chewy, should I drink it or use a spoon? Cocoa, oatmeal, treacle, vanilla bean and Anise peak out from behind the massive coffee. Bitter hops follow, some mineral salt, great balance here! Is the Yeti real? One sip and I’m a believer!

BOD 6/17/14. Pours dark as a starless night. Very good head with exceptional lacing and very good retention. Rich nose of dark chocolate, very little roast character, over a nice citrus hop background with only a hint of coffee. As it warms, light vanilla notes are noticed. Rich full body with a creamy texture. Below normal carbonation with no effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is complex, but the alcohol is not well hidden. It begins with rich dark chocolate that flows into notes of coffee coupled with vanilla over a rich malt sweetness. Roast is noted in the middle over a citric hop flavor and mild bitterness. The smooth finish is dominated by alcohol and leaves a warm back of throat burn and a burnt sugar lingering aftertaste. Dial the alcohol back a bit and this one becomes outstanding.

Over a year old and holding up like a champ. Loads of dark chocolate and dark fruit with a decent amount of carbonation and mouth coating.

(35 cl bottle from Systembolaget poured into a burgundy wine glass; BBD: June 1st 2015) Pours pitch black with deep toffee two finger head of pearly particles. Good retention and beautiful lace. Aroma is dark and roasted with notes of molasses and coffee. Oily texture, full body, soft carbonation and a long, dry bordering on astringent finish. Quite a sipper that is not eager to please.

330 ml bottle at home. Black color with very nice brown head that lasts. Aroma is roasted malty, chocolate, hoppy at the end. Taste is the same, roasted, light sweet, dark chocolate and coffee, a little bit spicy and then it becomes bitter, coffee bitterness and hoppy bitterness. Almost full body, oily feel, soft carbonation, nice long bitter aftertaste.

The color is almost carbon black. The foam is a half finger thick. The aroma is strong with coffee, alcohol, and walnuts. The taste is fairly well balanced. The alcohol might gain the upper hand a little but otherwise perfect. Cocoa powder, brown sugar and coffee binds well with each other. A really sharp imperial stout. Aroma is roasted chocolatey malt with dark fruits, mainly raisins. Taste is powerful dark burnt malt and bitter hops balanced with sweet fruit. The mouthfeel is oily and full bodied. The carbonation is very soft. The finish is pleasantly bitter and very long. Great imperial stout. Pretty typical flavor profile for the style with a nice bite to it. Very well done.

12 oz bottle. Thick and smooth with low carbonation; likely better if on nitro tap. This is a big beer with a huge load of dark malts and plenty of hops as well. Enough coffee in the flavor to suggest there’s actually some in here. Rich, very dark roast flavor.

Bottle to celebrate my 2nd anniversary at RB. Pours cloudy nearly pitch black with airy but stable dark tan head. Dark aroma of roasted caramel malt, liquorice, coffee and nuts. Sweetish onset of chocolate and coffee, gradually replaced by intense, bitter notes of hops and burnt caramel malt. Lingering, roasty, coffeelike finish. Well-balanced. Delicious. Great.
