Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Pours as dark as motor oil with a sticky beige head. Aroma is deep and complex roasted malt with coffee, chocolate, BIG licorice notes, a bit of alcohol. The flavour reflects the aroma, with toffee, coffee and chocolate showing up on the palate first which then give way to BIG licorice flavour, and finishing with a touch of hoppy bitterness, and alcohol. The palate is pretty much spot on, with a chewy, syrupy mouthfeel, suits the flavours well, the oak aged version is better, but this is pretty damn f’n good. If you like this beer, you should check out Wellington Imperial Russian Stout if you can, it’s not quite as good, but its close, and it’s affordable.

Delicious beer. Smells of roasted malt with a hint of chocolate. Nice dark cola like coloring with a rich dark tan head. Great flavor. Filled with a dark chocolate taste and delicious roasted malt. A touch of a bitter kickback. Warm going down. Nice brew!

Bottle - Nice dark pour with small tan head. Aroma of dark coco and a roasted quality. I think the pine notes and hop bitterness of this is what kept me from giving it a higher rate. Good malt blend but not as great with the dry hop body overall.

2007 Vintage

7/20/2008: Yeti Imperial Stout is nearly black in color with only a very thin tan veil on top. It presents a robust aroma of dark chocolate, heavily roasted malt, and suggestions of vanilla and espresso. Many layers of smooth roasted malts, heavily caramelized sugar, and rich dark chocolate topped of with a respectable level of bitterness. Even the bitterness is a complex blend of pine, unsweetened chocolate, acidic coffee-like notes, and citrus. These hop flavors continue to develop and become more apparent as the beer warms (expecially the citrusy and pine notes). This beer is pretty well-balanced and very, very drinkable considering it’s complexity and alcohol content! I would prefer a touch less hoppiness though... It is full-bodied and very smooth. Yeti has always been an impressive brew and is fairly easy to find and moderately priced. It is definitely worth considering when browsing for a good stout to enjoy regarless of how many times I have had it in the past.

12 fl. oz. bottle (9.5% Alc. By Vol. / 75 IBUs / Month and Date Bottled: Dec ’07) from Dutch’s Pony Key in East Hyde Park (Cincinnati, Ohio). Rating #1061 for this beer...

draft. one of the best stou’ts i’ve tasted. well balanced, looks great, tastes great - aftertaste keeps balanced, no weird notes to distract you from the goodies. The only letdown was a faint aroma i couldn´t really pick up.

Pours black with small light brown head, hues of burgundy. Excellent aroma of roasted malts bringing out a woody fruit aroma with hints of dark chocolate and some spice. Initially a smooth dark sweetness, followed by the warming of the palate and liquid. Flavor transitions to a tingling dry bitter/burnt chocolate that lingers long after the initial mouthful. Dark dirty and brilliant brew!
