Cask at the Reading beer festival. Deep brown. Pine. Roast malt. Pine. Roast malt. Pine. Roast malt. Pine. A littlw touch of flowers is the only hint that there’s any more depth to this beer. Not that it’s bad mind; it’s just one- dimensioal.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely lacy head. Nose - chocolate orange, grapes and grapefruit. Taste - coffee, dark chocolate and a tropical citrus thing. Not pineapple - more like lychees. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry but yet elegant finish. No rough edges, really balanced. Overall - great black IPA. One of the best I’ve had, no question.

330ml bottle from BeerRitz online store. Pours black with a red tinge, thick biege foamy head leaving lots of lacing and aroma of floral citrus hop along with burnt dark malts & coffee notes. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, nicely balanced against a juicy citrus hop bitterness. Smooth, medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, dry roasted hoppy bitter finish. Very drinkable Black IPA.

Bottle. My first from this brewery and what a pleasant first impression it was. Black and quite powerful .Hops dominate at first then a distinctive bitter finish emerges that lingers. Rather nice.

Bottle in the Head of Steam, Newcastle. Pours black with a cream head. Some good bitter hop piney flavour over some nice chocolate malt notes. Surprisingly refreshing. Tasty stuff. A fine black IPA.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a reddish hue and a thin broken off-white head and some broken lace. The aroma is grassy hop with surprisingly a hint of sweet smooth creamy caramel. The flavour is medium bitter with a lovely grassy nettle spice hop palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. As black IPA’s go, this is one of the best I’ve had. Served cool and very refreshing.
