Bottle from Y Delyn Wine Bar, Mold. Pours super dark brown with a thin but long lasting beige head. Coffee and hops dominate on the nose. Flavour is interesting; coffee, burnt toast and hops. Nicely carbonated and slightly oily mouthfeel. Tasty!

Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is dry and crisp. Mellow dark malt, touch of lactose and roast. Smooth piney hops and a tiny bit of citrus. Finishes dry with a mildly bitter aftertaste of malt roast and hops.

Bottle. Black with a beige foam. Aromas are coffee and oats with coal and pithy grapefruit. Earthy with pepper and smoky notes. Nutty with cocoa nibs and light pine. Flavours are gritty and earthy coffee with pithy grapefruit and green pine. Herbal with bitter dark chocolate and dark berries. Dark and juicy.

Aroma has moderate citrus notes and a hint of caramel. Flavour adds some hop bitterness and a fiar bit of roasty dryness.

Cask conditioned handpump Wenlock Arms London 06/09/13. A black beer with an off-white bubbly head. Slightly roasty in the nose but it’s mostly hops. Big grapefruity stuff with hints of coffee in the mouth. Lovely flavours. Very nice indeed. Quality.

Half-pint, hand-pulled in The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham on 31 Aug 2013. As the name suggests, this is black in colour, on top a tanned covering of tight foam. The nose was malty, over roasted malts with a liquorice note, coal, weak chocolate and coffee also came to mind as I sniffed away at my glass. Taste wise it was fairly similar to the smells I was getting, but with a semi-hop bitterness throughout each sip: so dark malt led with a hop undertone. The alcohol was hidden well by the flavours and I found it very easy to drink. Wasn’t as rich or smooth in the body: it was being tasted along with a Vanilla Porter which really was rich and smooth, this however was fine for an IPA, black or otherwise, they are not supposed to be smooth.

August 29, 2013 - hand-pull cask at The Harp (Chandos Place). Black, light and oily-looking, small but long-lasting tan rocky head. Aroma and taste are very nice indeed - a little thick and slighy syrupy but NOT sweet - am actual hint of iodine along with the coffee/nutshell roast - and redolent with low-level lush dried grassy / floral / gently herbal bitterness, light alcohol. Taste follows, but a little more roast-assertive; rely soft and balanced. Slick mouthfeel, decent body, airy but not all that carbonated, medium finish were all elements fade at the same time. An Elegant beer.

It's a black IPA so guess what colour it is? Aroma is woody, liquorice. Taste is liquorice, peppery. Very nice with a lasting taste, and obviously hoppy bitterness ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at Craven Arms, Birmingham. Unbelievably drinkable BIPA. Charcoal, chippings of roadside workings, delicious hoppy smoothness. And let’s mention the smoothness again: this beer is very smooth, plus the flavour lasts and lasts. Fantastic.
