Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is dry and crisp. Mellow dark malt, touch of lactose and roast. Smooth piney hops and a tiny bit of citrus. Finishes dry with a mildly bitter aftertaste of malt roast and hops.

Day 2 of the post Xmas Bamberg Jolly, Cafe Abseits Tasting big thanks to Fergus for spreading the CDA love, 25/01/14. Dark mahogony brown with a moderate light beige covering that thins to a pond/swirl. Nose is pine, earthy hops, bitter tropicals, cocoa powder. Taste comprises earthy cocoa, light roast, pine resin, bitter grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, grassy skunky hop closure. Solid enough CDA.

Cask conditioned at Stratford upon Avon Beer Festival ’15. Black with cream head. There is a deep, dark roasted, full palate to the malts, charcoal hints with crispy toast then a strong, bittering chocolate note. Amongst all of this malty stuff going on there is a leafy, grassy, bittering hop character. Loads going on but not really that confusing. I liked this a lot and my beer of this Festival.

330ml bottle (Birofilia2014, Zywiec)
Black, a bit watery loose head. Soft sweet roast aroma. Some sharpness - aggressive hops. Simple malts, not fermented enough, mashy and a bit messy. Hops decent, but not shining. Meh. A slightly hop-forward dark beer, that’s all.

330ml bottle kindly shared by Finn. Good looking with a decent fawn-coloured head, spotty lacing down the glassware, and a dark brown coloured body with a rustic glint. Mixed aroma of dark fruits and dark malts. Brown and black malts upfront, caramel and chocolate, joined by bitter dark fruit and a nice little roastiness to the finish. Quite easy to drink. Clean in the mouth. Like it (Tromsø 10.12.2014).

Keg at Kings Arms. It pours dark brown with a medium light tan head. The nose is earthy, dirt, roasted malt, candied orange peel, milk chocolate and earth. The taste is bitter-sweet, dirty roast, citrus peel, caramel, touch of sherbet, coffee grounds, earth and peppery bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit dirty. Decent enough though.
