COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The summer of 2013 introduced the city of Cleveland to a unique and rare visitor. A Brown Pelican, usually found in Florida and other Gulf states, wandered north to vacation on Ohio’s Lake Erie coast. Swapping saltwater for fresh, feeding on shad instead of mullet, this welcome stranger made Lake Erie his home for several months and became an unlikely local celebrity. This dark lager honors our courageous friend who traveled off the beaten path to find his home.

Dark and toasty with rich, robust malt flavors, Wandering Pelican Black Lager is brewed with proprietary lager yeast and balanced with a blend of crisp, floral American hops.

On tap at Barcade.
Appearance: Black body with a creamy tan head.
Aroma: Light aroma, milky with hints of caramel and chocolate.
Taste: Creamy flavor, hints of chocolate, roast and caramel. Nothing is prominent, rather all the flavors are integrated nicely into the creamy body.
Palate: Creamy and full-bodied, nitro like.
Overall: This is a beer not huge on flavor or aroma, but beautifully blending the nuances together.

Draft - Light roast and toast. Jet black with a rich light brown head. Toasted malts and some brine notes with a sweetness in the finish. The brine is a bit off for me.

Draft... Muckfest 2014… Pours clear and dark brown with a mid-sized, foamy, cappuccino head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is straight-up toasted nuts and vanilla with a less significant measure of chocolate crème. Medium-bodied and lightly creamy with tingly carbonation. The moderately sweet flavor is roasty with a nice mocha character. Crisp, bittersweet, roasty finish.

on tap @ Cock and Bull / Covington KY --- Clear, very dark brown color with a thin head cover, heavy sheet of lace. Taste is sweet roasted malt that develops an agreeable burnt edge as it moves into the palate. Then hops and bourbony overtones move in for the long finish. Strong, a bit overpowering for the 8.5%, so, maybe best sipped 10 oz. at a time.

On draft at Fat Head’s Brewer’s Brawl
This had been widely available on the Cleveland area for a month or so now. After trying a sample pour I might have to get a pint. A very interesting experiment, this collaboration with Cigar City shows hallmarks of both breweries’ trademark styles.

Aroma / Appearance - A reddish black base with a fringe of vanilla tickles the edges of the glass. Chewed half melted chocolate tinges the air with a sweet feel along with the dry feel of desert air.

Flavor / Palate - Chocolate, coffee, and almonds immediate brighten up the palate. A soft mouthfeel enriches the texture with a splash of carbonation, ice cream, and coffee. Building to a slow crescendo, this draft takes time to really open up. I would love to try it side by side with the Cigar City version to see what the differences are.

Pours a dark black with a mocha head. Medium to heavy roast with a hint of vanilla. Medium sweet with a light bitter. Medium body with a somewhat creamy and sticky texture.
