COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coastís unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Style Origin: Distinctively American, the Double IPA or Imperial IPA is thought to have originated in California. This fairly new style is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content, creating a very strong and flavorful drinking experience.

Flavor: Hop-forward with a balanced blend of Mosaic and Nugget hops

Ingredients:
MALT Harrington 2-Row Base Malt: Allows color and flavor from other specialty malts to come through; makes for very clean beer Caramel 45: Contributes to amber color; provides complexity Honey Malt: Contributes sweetness

HOPS Mosaic: New U.S. hop; provides floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy characteristics Nugget: U.S. bittering hop; provides floral, resiny aroma and flavor Cascade: U.S. hop with citrus characteristics for aroma

Pairs With: Smoked beef brisket, grilled lamb, sharp and rich cheeses, and sweet desserts

Shelf Life: 90 days

Bottle from a trade with UDbeernut. Pours slightly hazy burnt orange color with off white head. Big citrusy aroma. Grapefruit and orange flavors with some caramel sweetness. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Excellent. Thanks Art.

From the aroma and the taste to the flavour left on the tongue, grapefruit is what stands out. Absolutely beautiful golden appearance. For fans of IPAís that lean towards a citrus emphasis, it doesnít get much better than this. For a 9.4% beer, itís very easy to drink.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2013 Nearly clear amber pour with a 2 finger, creamy, off white head that has great retention. Aroma has lots of ripe tropical fruit and sweet citrus, light caramel, cereal and toasty malt, more floral and generally fuity hops come in later. Flavor starts off fruity and bitter citrus, leads to some caramel, bicuit and toasty malt, passion fruit and mango heavy tropical fruit, a little melon, sweet orange blossom and some bitter grapefruit and lightly earthy, woody and pine hops. Medium body, with a neutral, to creamy entry, light, to moderate and somewhat blanketing carbonation and creamy, oily and off dry finish. Awesome, definitely the kind of IIPA I would love to drink case after case of.

What a description, will not make me like it any better. On tap at the madmex. stronger sweet volatile aroma. looks like clear pale ale. Taste is alky strong, wew, even for a 9%. Does not hide the alky trying to get in yer face. Long bitter medicinal finsh, terribly on style.

Clear deep golden/copper pour with a thin creamy and off white head and light sticky lacing ... awesome aroma of tropical fruits, (mango, pineapple) with a citrusy rindy, earthy hop and some caramel malts as well .... taste is of tropical fruits, bitter rindy with mango, pineapple and grapefruit mostly ... light floral, citrusy, earthy touch and a bit of a malty backbone .... abv hidden well .. finishes dry lingering with malty and rindy grapefruit flavor .... bitter hop bite does not dominate, but is through and through ... well done brew loved this one and had my fill

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep copper with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of piney, resinous, and citrusy hops with some caramel malts plus a little dough and bubble gum. Flavor the same with a nice blend of everything and a good amount of hops. Smooth texture. A really good beer.

Iím still relatively new to drinking craft beer so rating them is tough, but out of all of the beers Iíve had (and Iíve had a bunch over the past two months or so) this one is definitely my favorite. Scores well in all four categories and especially overall.

Bottle from Justin. Aroma and flavor of these fruity and tropical hops...not bitter in the least and just the way I like IPAs. Palate is clean, but there's enough stickiness to keep your attention there. Carb is good; lacing is present, very little head. There is a definite sweetness present here, but nothing like Hopslam...sorta a mix between that and the Younger honestly. Color me impressed...like everything else from Great Lakes that ISN'T aged in a barrel. Excellent beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
