COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coast’s unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Style Origin: Distinctively American, the Double IPA or Imperial IPA is thought to have originated in California. This fairly new style is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content, creating a very strong and flavorful drinking experience.

Flavor: Hop-forward with a balanced blend of Mosaic and Nugget hops

Ingredients:
MALT Harrington 2-Row Base Malt: Allows color and flavor from other specialty malts to come through; makes for very clean beer Caramel 45: Contributes to amber color; provides complexity Honey Malt: Contributes sweetness

HOPS Mosaic: New U.S. hop; provides floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy characteristics Nugget: U.S. bittering hop; provides floral, resiny aroma and flavor Cascade: U.S. hop with citrus characteristics for aroma

Pairs With: Smoked beef brisket, grilled lamb, sharp and rich cheeses, and sweet desserts

Shelf Life: 90 days

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2014 Loaded with caramel. Citrus hops, orange, grains, a bit musky with hints of tropical fruit and light berry sweetness. Good balance from the hop bitterness. Smooth feel and good carbonation.

Tasted from bottle. Pours a clear orange amber with white head. Incredible aroma. Big time citrus notes but also floral and pine. Flavor also excellent. Orange, grapefruit, pine, earthy flavors with a caramel sweet malt backbone. Complex and very well balanced for double IPA. Hides alcohol very well and goes down very smoothly. Medium bodied with a creamy and clingy mouthfeel. Excellent IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice Amber colored pour. Aroma is tangy citrus hops, with a hint of pine. Taste is wonderful, sweet upfront with a blast of citrus and pine hop dry finish. Great beer, very well crafted and hides the abv wonderfully.

Reddish copper pour from 12oz bottle. Fine sediment floating. Half finger of white foam. Very floral with a touch of pine and citrus. Mango, tropical fruits, sweetness and citrus "twang." Maybe a tad sweet for me, but really well crafted. You taste NO alcohol, even though there are big alcohol legs on the glass.

Best Great Lakes beer I've had! A lot of citrus up front and a super hoppy finish. Defiantly a must try!

Reddish/amber color with malty aroma. Creamy head that doesn’t last long, but nice Belgium lace. Honey/carmel sweet malt taste that lays on the palate with a bitter grapefruit taste at the end.

Darkish amber color. Aroma is malt, honey, alcohol. Taste is very close to the aroma, with the addition of some nice hops bitterness. A tiny bit too sweet for my tastes in a DIPA, but still an excellent example of the style. Reminds me a bit of Hopslam, but not quite in Hopslam’s league.
