COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coast’s unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Style Origin: Distinctively American, the Double IPA or Imperial IPA is thought to have originated in California. This fairly new style is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content, creating a very strong and flavorful drinking experience.

Flavor: Hop-forward with a balanced blend of Mosaic and Nugget hops

Ingredients:
MALT Harrington 2-Row Base Malt: Allows color and flavor from other specialty malts to come through; makes for very clean beer Caramel 45: Contributes to amber color; provides complexity Honey Malt: Contributes sweetness

HOPS Mosaic: New U.S. hop; provides floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy characteristics Nugget: U.S. bittering hop; provides floral, resiny aroma and flavor Cascade: U.S. hop with citrus characteristics for aroma

Pairs With: Smoked beef brisket, grilled lamb, sharp and rich cheeses, and sweet desserts

Shelf Life: 90 days

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2014 Aroma of hops but not overpowering. I wish there was more hops. The alcohol shines through quite a bit. More bitter than balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

So much hops and peach on the nose and in the taste. Best DIPA I’ve had to date. Just need to try Heady Topper.

Got this from a friend visiting from Ohio.....thanks Mr. Matt! Nice fragrant aromas of piney hops, mixed with citrus, and floral notes. Rusty orange appearance, with a tan head. Sweet honey malt, with notes of citrus at first. Bitterness bleeds in, and is a nice counter to the sweet....meld together nicely. Finish is a warm alcohol feel, with a peppery bitter bite on the end. Decent Imperial...tastes accentuate as it warms up.

Bottle shared by 5k - thanks! Amber pour, clear, big bubbles.aroma more tropical - tangerine creamcicle, caramel, a little pine, bitter finish, sweeter than Zombie Dust (had just before this) by quite a bit, which cuts the bitterness a lot. Slick, full body, soft carbonation. A little syrupy. Overall: nice, with a fair bit of sweetness in this one. My rating is probably a bit low, but that’s a matter of circumustance. It sucks to be a sweet hoppy beer following a particularly good dry hoppy beer, at least in my mouth.

Bottle. Bright shiny copper. Sweet earthy hops. A touch of honey on the finish. Candied sugar taste. Alcohol is completely hidden at 9%. Rich and sweet, very drinkable. Overall delicious. Everything I want in a double ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

My favorite IPA hands down. Strong start with a nice finish and a lingering hop with enough citrus to balance it all.

Tap. Golden pour with a lot of white head. Smells of malt and a ton of hops. Sweet on the front with a hop bitter finish. Very good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a reddish golden with a white head which disappears quickly. Aroma is pine and heavy citrus, grapefruit. Taste is overwhelming grapefruit, crisp for a heavy mouthfeel, no residual oiliness, sweet malt and minimal bitterness. Finishes very clean for a double. Quite impressive.

A pretty simplistic beer that was very well executed. Has a nice pine earthy bitterness that is very refreshing.
