COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coast’s unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Style Origin: Distinctively American, the Double IPA or Imperial IPA is thought to have originated in California. This fairly new style is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content, creating a very strong and flavorful drinking experience.

Flavor: Hop-forward with a balanced blend of Mosaic and Nugget hops

Ingredients:
MALT Harrington 2-Row Base Malt: Allows color and flavor from other specialty malts to come through; makes for very clean beer Caramel 45: Contributes to amber color; provides complexity Honey Malt: Contributes sweetness

HOPS Mosaic: New U.S. hop; provides floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy characteristics Nugget: U.S. bittering hop; provides floral, resiny aroma and flavor Cascade: U.S. hop with citrus characteristics for aroma

Pairs With: Smoked beef brisket, grilled lamb, sharp and rich cheeses, and sweet desserts

Shelf Life: 90 days

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2014 Array of hops in this beast of a 2XIPA. Pine, grapefruit, floral. Tantalizing nose that comes through with the flavor. Slick mouth feel. Yum! *I bought an entire case and the more I drink it, the more I love it. This has become my favorite beer. It doesn’t get better than this, so a perfect score of 5 it gets from me.

Bottle pour. Ruby red/orange with a off white head. Aroma of a fruit stand. Upfront cherries, strawberries, melon and orange. Middle is the same. Back end is dry bitterness of tropical madness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance is a dark orange brown. Aroma is a huge citrus bomb. Initial taste seemed a little watered down but very smooth. Palate of tropical fruits with a lingering bitterness. Nice warmth of alcohol. Nice job by GLBC, might even be better than the Monster. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2013 Aroma is fantastic, supersweet grapefruit, I would even go towards pineapple. Appearance is also beautiful, a dark amber with a light tan, one-finger head. Taste is also very sweet grapefruit, pine, a deep bitter hoppy aftertaste with no trace of booze. The mouthfeel is perfect, soft carbonation with not too much of a hoppy bite. Overall, GLBC hit the mark with this beer. This is an outstanding IIPA.

One of the absolute best IPAs I’ve had the pleasure of trying. Deliciously balanced and ample on the hops, with an impressive medley. A light spiciness exists on the dry finish, which is ideal for my personal tastes. Not overtly carbonated, which is indeed impressive for a beer with the intense aroma of pine, citrus, and resin going on in this beer. Damn near flawless.

Pours a reddish amber. Thick, creamy head. Beautiful, full aroma of floral, piney hops. Big flavor of citrus, honey, pine needles, raisin. Finish is apricot and orange peel. The mouthfeel is surprisingly light for a 9.4% ABV beer. This is a delicious brew. Finely crafted, wonderful hop flavor. The malt may lean a tad on the sweet side, but it’s hard to complain about this one.

You really don’t find many beers in the world much better then this. Hints the almost perfect score. :-) Great tasting, good looking, balanced and flavorful double IPA.
