12oz bottle (bottled in 2014) compliments of ewestern into Le Duvel - nose is vanilla and roast. Sips adds whiskey, brown sugar and coffee. Sweet and bitterness of the dark chocolate kind. Fairly easy to drink. An awesome way to finish the DLD weekend after spending 5.5 hours on the road!

Draft at Big Hunt poured into a highball. Pours black with light tan head. Aromas of caramel, vanilla, sweet bourbon. Tasting notes of bourbon, coconut, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, dark fruit. Medium-full body with a dry warm finish. Medium carbonation, thick oily mouthfeel. Very nice!

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap: Pitch black, topped with a huge, lively tan cream made of fine-bubbles that lasts for over half the glass. Aroma is full of light whiskey notes with a fine backing of oak, tannins, mild roasted malt, hints of sweet chocolate, & light barrel-induced vanillin around the edges. Not as complex as expected, but still nice. The flavor is quite a nice step up... Lovely sweet baker’s chocolate mixed with smooth whiskey; I get a huge maple syrup presence throughout... The booze is apparent but is tamed nicely by the sweetness. Vanilla, brownie batter, brown sugar, baker’s chocolate with some prickly, woody tannins in the finish. Gains more whiskey character with warmth. I eventually pick up faint coconut near the end of my glass, too. Overall, an awesome barrel aged stout with great flavor, wish it was a little easier to get.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014 bottle. Pours a nice oily black, very thin mocha head that leaves spotty lacing and a ring around the glass. Aromas of chocolate covered bananas. Seriously. A nice sweetness from roasted nuts, vanilla and bourbon permeates. Nothing too sharp, very inviting. Taste is not as robust as the nose may suggest. A nice blend of iced coffee with the slightly sweet chocolate upfront. I get some additional sweetness from the malts in the form of candied yams and pecan. Interesting. The barrel character is not overdone, giving off hints of vanilla, oak and bourbon. Again, nothing too sharp. Leaving a slightly slick finish with some oily coffee that lingers briefly before the slight warming alcohol. Good balance of flavor to this, although the mouthfeel was a bit thin and under-carbonated for my tastes. If only slightly. Very good brew, provides plenty of character for the style without going over-the-top. Elegant beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Ashley’s Bourbon Barrel Takeover on March 25. The pour is more of a dark mahogany with a decent off-white spotty head and some decent lace. The aroma is decently chocolatey with nice bourbon and vanilla presences. There is definitely a little bit of a thin character, which I’m not too keen on. The flavor is pretty good. There is a huge bourbon note on the front end with a really thin malty and roasty character on the back end. The body contains a decent chocolate and vanilla flavors, but remains a bit lighter than I was expecting. The mouth feel is thin, and the light carbonation doesn’t help the flavors adhere to the mouth. The aftertaste is a little dry, chocolatey, but fades out quickly.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

Poured from a 12oz bottle I got in a trade, thanks Jim & Justin! Aroma is bourbon, coconut, chocolate, and roast. Flavors are chocolate, bourbon, coconut, caramel, and roasty coffee. Love this beer, I like the regular blackout but man this is even better! So glad I got this beer! Touché Great Lakes!

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottled in 2014.
Appearance: Some chestnut appears through the small edges, byt overall this is pitch black. A short and dense khaki head appears on top with good retention.
Aroma: "Oh my fucking god," were the words uttered from my mouth when I smelled this. Big brownie batter with crushed espresso beans backed by a hint of bourbon and fine tobacco. Holy cow this is wonderful. Slightly sweet, robust and good presence. This is the perfect aroma.
Taste: Holy shit this is a fucking phenomenal experience. Big fudge and espresso with an ice cream cone flavor backing it. Hints of bourbon and tobacco by the finish, but holy shit this is fucking outstanding. Hints of vanilla and coconut are in the back towards the finish. The finish lingers of bold flavors of chocolate covered espresso beans.
Palate: A touch thin for what I would call perfect. Mild carbonation.
Overall: My only complaints are that I can’t get this and the body could use a bit more viscosity. Fucking hell, chocolate espresso bean with a hint of vanilla, coconut and bourbon. Stellar to the fucking max.
