Bottle from the brewery. Pours a dark brown black with nearly no head. Smell is sweet caramel and plum, with a hint of some floral or grass hops. Palate is on the lighter side of medium bodied with average carbonation. Taste is sweet at first but then gets balanced by a bit of bitterness which rolls around a bit in your mouth tasting like chocolate a bit. Very nice, not quite a quad, but not a dubbel either. Wish I had more of it.

[5187-20130405] Big bottle. Barbecued malt aroma. Clear, dark red brown body with a medium-lasting foamy light tan head. Grainy sweet malt flavour has a sweet malt aftertaste. Medium-full body. Tasty, has a little chocolate in the background. (7/3/8/3/14) 3.5

On tap at Imbibe GLB Tap Takeover. Opaque brown with a thin beige head. Mild aroma of caramel, dried fruits, and spice. Taste is smooth with caramel and treacle, with dried fruit notes. Quite sweet. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth with very little carbonation. This was nice.

2013-04-05. Very dark brown body small tan head. 3+ Sweetish aroma, lightly fruity, lightly nutty malt, slightly odd bit quite yeasty touch. 7++ Flavour is similar, pleasantly malty, not quite nutty quality to the malt. Very lightly lactic touch in the undertones? That’s the wrong description but it’s close. 7++ Smooth average bodied palate. 3+ Pretty nice stuff, kind of unusual. I am curious if that is a function of the yeast, age of the bottle, or something else. Enjoyable Bottle aged a month or two from the brewery via Blankboy

Bottle [650ml]. Pours a deep reddish-amber with a small diminishing frothy beige head. Some lacing on the glass. Sweet aroma of yeast and dark fruit along with bready malt, light sugary sweetness and light hops. Flavour of bready malt, yeast and fruit -- also sweet but not cloying. Alcohol is relatively well hidden. Medium bodied. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Draught at The Alibi Room GLB Tap Takeover, Kingston ON, Jan 17 2013) Poured a slightly hazy dark brown with a very small tan head. Aroma of plum/rasin, caramel, floral hops. Plate is sweet caramel malt and plum, slight yeast, bittering hops on the back end with a touch of the alcohol. Mouthfeel is fairly light with the carbonation softer than usual for GL. This is a nice Belgian, not the Quad it was labeled as at the bar but a strong dark outside of the cliched abbey styles. Good balance, could be slightly more unctuous but another style done well by Lackey and crew.

650 ml bottle from brewery. Pours a murky, orangey dark brown with smallish tan head. Aroma is sweet dark fruit, cola and a little funkiness. Flavour is sweet, candied fruit, molasses and some sour yeastiness. Light alcohol warmth. Mellow carbonation. Pretty big body. Nice.

Deep black-brown pour. Thick tan head. rich malt aroma and a touch of aniseed/licorice. Sweet and a little bit fruity. Lean bodied which keeps it from being cloying. Pretty nice.

As the rep girl said, this certainly tastes partway between a trippel and quadrupel. A three point fivel. Looks like a quad, tastes and smells more like a tripel. Good beer nonetheless - floral hops in aroma, some malt and strong notes of plum or raisin. Pours cloudy brown verging on black. Finishes a little sweet, a little bitter. Tap at Winterfest.
