Great Lakes is plain and simply on top of their game. A great stout with great flavor. This beer has a lot of flavor and you will not be disappointed.

I had this on Tap. A very dark beer that has a very bold taste. This is one of the better Russian imperial stouts i’ve had.

Refrigerated 12 oz. bottle, best by date 4/20/12 poured into a shaker. Pours black with small dark brown highlights and half finger beige head. Some lacing, medium carbonation, pretty thick body, and nice roasted aroma. Taste is slightly sweet roasted malt, some caramel malt, some coffee, and some nice bitter hops in the finish. This is a good complex Imperial Russian Stout which for the style is not that filling, alchohol is well covered, there is a little off taste in the middle (which becomes more promenient with increased temperature) that prevents this from being a homerun, and I would like to have again.

Dark black, roasty malt and chocolate smell. Sort of a sweet taste for a stout.
Really good imperial stout.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Sledutah (1886) - Utah, USA - JAN 22, 2012
12oz bottle from SS 2011
Appearance: Black with small tan head and light spotty lacing
Aroma: Rousted malts and bitter chocolate
Taste: Roasted malts, sharp sour/bitter chocolate, licorice, medicinal and roasted coffee
Ok, but the sour/bitterness wasn’t pleasant for me.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 drowland (3566) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JAN 22, 2012
1/22/12. 12oz bottle thanks to csteele2144! Opaque black pour with a nice khaki head that fades but laces plenty. Nice aroma with milk chocolate, an almost lactose like sweetness even, with a bit of roast. More complex flavor with more sweetish milk chocolate, a touch of roasted coffee, and just a touch of sourness, black licorice, and lingering roast.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 moefriedman (18) - Illinois, USA - JAN 21, 2012
A decent RIS. A bit chocolaty, licoricy, malty, with some smoke. And you’d never know it’s 9%. Finish is a little chalky and off to me
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 callmemickey (702) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 21, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2012 A: Healthy off white cap covers a dark brown/black body... light lacing.. good retention before forming a tight ring with some skim in the middle
S: Light chocolate aromas dominate a roasted malt base... not a whole lot going on here that is distinctive... some booze sneaks its way in
T: Much of the same... a pleasant chocolate taste dominates with some other elements creeping in.. notably caramel and coffee... slight booze burn
M: Medium bodied.. good, clean finish... a tad thin in parts
O: Good.. but nothing distinguishes itself here... its not as complex as the russian imperial stout category demands from its best... nice thing is, it was relatively cheap... worth a shot
