Narnad (111), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours pitch black with a great medium tan head that sticks around. Aroma is very roasted and heavy of coffee, chocolate and a great sweet alcohol scent. Flavor really starts off with the coffee flavor, moving into the chocolate and finishing with a very dry alcohol bite. Stout is very smooth and heavy, leaving great lacing along the glass. Really a great example of the style. I HAVE to find this one again! taalhiker (111), Dayton, Ohio, USA Oct 3, 2008 From bottle. Pours black with a tan head with excellent lacing.
Nose is heavy with coffee & chocolate. Flavor include chocolate and roasted coffee. Incredible balance. A classic GL brew...... Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle bought in Buffalo and shared ghetto-style @ Niagara falls bus station. Opaque black, tan head. Coffee-forward aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Smooth as Barry White. Beautiful roasted coffee, toasted malt, and a splash of tasty bourbon at the end. This beer kicks ass, love it. beerbill (1316), Laurel, New York, USA Sep 26, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of my Summer Secret Santa. Pours black with a moderate light brown head that lasted until mid-glass and left surprisingly little foam on the glass. The aroma, while pleasant, is surprisingly mild for an imperial stout with some roasted malt, chocolate and a bit of alcohol on the nose. The flavor is more in line with an imperial stout with plenty of roasted malt along with chocolate and a bit of licorice. Moderate hops bitterness at the finish with some astringency that lingers well beyond the swallow. As the beer warms, an alcohol flavor develops towards the finish. Not a burn, just the flavor. A solid beer but not as bold as I was expecting. chronictonic (362), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 14, 2008 Bottle - pours an oily black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some smoked wood, coffee and dark dried fruits. Flavor is big and roasty - some alcohol notes - nice hop crispness to help balance the roastiness. Some phenolyic flavors, but not distracting from how good this beer is.
