Commercial Description:
A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.
Available in February & March.

2008 bottle courtesy of OHLRangers. Pours a murky dark brown to black color with a massive two finger tan creamy head that settles slowly and laces the glass. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of sweet chocolate, toffee, caramel, ripe dark fruit, molasses, anise and fainter hints of coffee. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of dark and sweet chocolate, ripe dark fruit, toffee, molasses and hints of coffee, chocolate covered cherries and roasted malts. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing malty and sweet finish.

The second of my tri-imperial stout tasting: Super smokey beer, poured dark as the midnight sun. BBQ on the nose with dark roasted malts on the palate. In the finish i noticed a little dark fruits, black cherry, some black licorice and a smell that reminds me of Lambeau Field on game day.

Having rated this before I guess Ill do it again. pours black with a nose of oak ash and burnt malt, with some chocolate. Big taste of roasted or burnt malt with molasses, anise, and a light floral hop in the back. Fairly thin and not so robust, but nonetheless, a very good beer. Finishes with a slightly bitter note.

2007-huge wood in the nose. color is pitch black. flavor is of hops yet still mellow.
2008-big chocolate in nose and flavor. sticky and sugary, very sweet and nearly cloying.
excellent representation of the style either way, solid big beer.

Draft. Included as part of a sampler at the brewpub in Cleveland. I remembered liking pretty much everything but do not remember specifics. Do remember that they have an excellent brewpub with excellent beer.
