sja14 (105), Ohio, USA Feb 25, 2009 On tap at GLBC. Pours black with a nice beige head. Roasted flavor with a burnt coffee/chocolate presence. Chewy mouthfeel. Definitely a good big beer. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 21, 2009 Bleh... fresh 09 is a bit of a mess right now. Pours a dark but still clear brown with a small fine beige frothy head. Strong roasted aroma, green earthy hops, some chocolate, touch of banana and bubble-gum. This beer is not quite so good this year and I’m not sure time will fix it either. Green green green earthy hops with some hard roasted slightly burnt malts, tobacco, loads of diacetyl, yucky banana and bubble-gum that has no place in a stout, bitter and astringent. Chocolate finish... reminds me of how off Darkness was this year. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours black with a foamy tan head. Medium carbonation. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and brown sugar. Taste has some bitter alcohol up front, followed by roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, brown sugar, and caramel. Lingering coffee and vanilla taste. Alcohol is very present and greatly warms. Body seems surprisingly light without being watery. Very drinkable for being a stout. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Feb 17, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep brown / black with a small beige head. Smells huge of dark roasted malts with hints of bitter chocolate. Taste is more of coffee notes and chocolate. A nice impy stout, good balance and complex flavor. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2009 Thanks sebletitje for the share. Pours cola brown with an off-white head, and lots of yellow lacing upon swirling. Nose is wood, chocolate, vanilla, ripe fruit, and some coffee-ness. Flavor is similar to aroma profile with an additional chocolate and some coffee bitterness in the finish. I have to agree with sebletitje in that the barrel aged version is incredible... foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 15, 2009 12oz bottle. Opaque black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate. Flavor is dominated by dark roasted malts with accents of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and alcohol. pours black with beige head and thin golden lacing.
Aroma roasted malts with light touch of chocolate and coffee.
Taste, plenty of malts, chocolate. Warming mouthfeel of the alcohol and thin addition of coffee.
Very tasty and solid imp. stout but it pales in comparison to its aged barrel version.. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 12, 2009 Updated: Feb 13, 2009Bottle, courtesy sebletitje. Blackish brown pour, with a tan head and lacing. Nose has roasted chocolate, coffee, some caramel, slight alcohol, and bitter.
