golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Oct 20, 2008 Bottle, received in a trade. Black pour, almost no head. Aroma is milk, roasted malt, molasses, burnt chocolate. Flavor is the same burnt chocolate, some sweet molasses / licorice, slightly nutty finish. Pretty good beer. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 15, 2008 12 ounce bottle courtesy of ucusty. Thanks! Best by 8/17/08. Pours a dark chestnut brown, appearing black in the glass, with medium head. Decent retention and specks of tan lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malts with molasses, tobacco, dark fruits, coffee. Coffee is assertive in the taste with caramel, burnt sugar and coffee notes. Some very light hoppiness as well. Full bodied. A top-notch imperial stout. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 15, 2008 bottle thanks to alexsdad06. Very dark pour with a small tan head that doesn’t last. Aroma is full of strong dark chocolate and highly roasted aromas are present. Flavor is chocolatey and some molasses notes. The finish is a tad bitter for my tastes. The hops are very evident on the finish. Very good, but I prefer a thicker, maltier, sweeter imp stout. hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Oct 13, 2008 Pours dark black (go figure) with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet, bitter chocolate and roasted malts. The flavor is where it’s at though. It has the standard chocolate notes, but it has this really sweet fruity flavor too that I can’t quite grasp the words for, but it’s quite delicious. Body could be thicker, but it is certainly manageable. Really good beer. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany Oct 13, 2008 Dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Roasted malt aroma, with some nice chocolate notes. Mmmmmm. Very tasty beer. Sweet roasted malt - perfectly balanced roast flavor. Pretty sweet. Chocolate, caramel, hazelnut. Not terribly complex, but delicious regardless. Very nice, full, slightly slick mouthfeel. Great beer. ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Oct 13, 2008 Aroma: currants, caramel. Delicious chocolate. Very roasty. Tons of chocolate with some coffee undertones. Finishes pretty dry with a nice hop profile, although it is overshadowed by the lingering chocolaty goodness in the finish. Body is perfect, perhaps a bit much stinging carbonation. bierkoning (5987), La Tropica, Netherlands Oct 13, 2008 Bottle from Secret Santa. Almost black and opague. Raisin and roast in the aroma. Malty sweetish, roasty flavor with raisin, blackcurrant and a touch of caramel. Some earthy hops in the finish. Almost perfectly balanced, tasty brew. Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours pitch black with a great medium tan head that sticks around. Aroma is very roasted and heavy of coffee, chocolate and a great sweet alcohol scent. Flavor really starts off with the coffee flavor, moving into the chocolate and finishing with a very dry alcohol bite. Stout is very smooth and heavy, leaving great lacing along the glass. Really a great example of the style. I HAVE to find this one again!
