Commercial Description:
A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.
Available in February & March.

Bottled sample via (and consumed with) oakbluff. Jet black in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas of black roasty malts, dark chocolate, mild coffee, and a touch of fruit. Flavors are of powdered milk chocolate, light molasses, vanilla, and a bit of caramel. On the palate, things start out medium sweet, but the roasted malts dry things out quite nicely. A bit of a lightweight in the Imperial Stout category, but still pretty good.

pours a dark cola, minimal head. Nose- mild roast, dark fruits. Taste- powder chocolate with more dark fruits (plums, etc), with a roasty hot finish. Very dry finish. Medium to moderate carbonation. Aftertaste is a touch hot.

Pours a nice black color with a nice medium brown head. Aroma is of a lot of chocolate a little coffee and some whiskey. Flavor is very smooth dark chocolate, slight coffee and a small alcohol tinge in the swallow. Good but not great.

Bottle from StFun, thanks Josh I havent had an impy in a while so... Black in color, no head. Aroma of malts and small amount of hops. Taste is malty. No flavors really stand out... But it does leave a bitter after taste in the mouth. Touch of chocolate, roasted malt. Medium texture. Nothing special but still a decent beer. Thanks josh

I’d tried this in bars a few times whilst traveling and really liked it. 12oz bottle delivered from K’s mom - from Marino’s in toledo. pours dark black with a quick fading tan head and a little lacing. nice light aroma with the usual suspects: dark chocolate, coffee, malt, caramel. also smell olives. taste is charred mix of sweet malt and chocolate with some whiskey, vanilla and fig action. not as thick as some, but creamy and very drinkable. great stuff. K-8.5

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Pours jet black with a thin light brown head that lasts throughout and leaves moderate lacing. The aroma is of sweet malt with a roasted character, hints of coffee and a brandy-like kick. The flavor is fantastic with an initial taste of roasted smokey malt, prunes, and brandy. This stout closes with a slightly bitter chocolaty, coffee finish. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation. Extremely smooth and warming. This is a great Imperial Stout !

Great Lakes is putting out some kickass beer, with the Fitz porter being one of my favorites (plus it’s available in our region and reasonably priced), and I was happy to see a stout hit the shelves. Am not disappointed, black and oily, smokey, everything a good stout should be without being overbearing. Smooth, very drinkable, try this beer.

Bottle courtesy of either Gillard or poonpillager. Pours black with a one finger tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and ash. Taste is the same as aroma with some sweet caramel malt. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol.
