estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 2, 2007 Bottle. Black body, tan head, malty nose with roasty notes. Malty, light coffee and chocolate notes, but almost more like a doppelbock than an imperial stout. MoritzF (4859), Bochum, Germany Nov 1, 2007 (35,5cl bottle with big thanks to Yogi beera!) Pitch black colour with a short but lacing foamy light-brown head. Slightly sweet roast-malty nose with caramel, chocolate
Initially slightly sweet malty with a roasted, almost burnt bitterness coming trough quite early, full bodied with a soft and pleasant carbonation, rounded up with notes of coffee, caramel and chocolate; well-rounded, almost dry roasty bitter finish with light grainy notes, coffee and a touch of dark chocolate. The alcohol is presently warming and well integrated. Aromatic, fairly complex and balanced Imp. Stout.
waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Oct 30, 2007 bottle. black with milk shake tan head. big aroma. sour, oats, dark fruits, anise and bitter coffee. great. smooth. coffee beans and dark chocolate. roasted malts. love it. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 27, 2007 Updated: Mar 4, 200907 bottle thanks to Ty5592. Poured a black color with a minimal tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and licorice. Initial flavor of roasted malt and chocolate with hints of caramel and toffee, and even a bit of licorice and darkfruits in the finish. Not as in-your-face as some of the other IS’s I have tasted, but it stands out as unique. Smooth and creamy. Not as roasty as I usually prefer, but it is still a great beer. Thanks Ty. jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Oct 27, 2007 Bottle via RagallachMC. Very pleasant brew all around. After already having the BA version, I was curious to see what the original had to offer. Blackout screams balance...from aroma (mostly roasted malt, dark chocolate) to flavor (moderately sweet, touch of caramel and vanilla) to mouthfeel (soft and coating) - just very well rounded, nicely crafted. Medium bodied and enjoyable. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 17, 2007 Pour: deep black, but a little thin. Head: creamy, medium beige. Aroma: alcohol, some spice, molasses, a little acidic. Flvaor: molasses, alcohol, roast. Palate: smooth. Finish: warm and roasty. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 10, 2007 Trade with drmatt. Pours a dark black, transparency in the pour. A little thin for what I like in the style. The head is small, a thin light brown. Nice aroma, sweet, fruit, alcohol, cherries, molasses, dark rum, coffee. The flavor features a sweet roast, sweet rum, slight alcohol, coffee. The palate is very smooth and easy to drink. Not an amazing impy, but very very nice with its own unique twist. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Oct 2, 2007 Updated: May 26, 2008Poured almost black with a nearly two-finger brown head. The aroma is chocolate, thin coffee and alcohol initially. As it opens up more chocolate comes out along with some smoke, roasted coffee beans, slight floral hops. The flavor was a nice blend of chocolate, roasty coffee, campfire, and some floral hoppiness. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a nice warming from the alcohol.
