xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Aug 13, 2007 12oz bottle from Discount liqour in Milwaukee. Opaque black appearance with large dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocollate, sweet roasted malt, some smoke. Flavor is big sweet malt with coffee second, followed by chocolate, some alc comes through but very subdued, light fruit and bittering hops aswell. Big creamy and full body. An amazing brew, now all I need is a whole bottle of BAed brew, not just a sample. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Aug 11, 2007 A black pour with a dark tan head. An aroma that chocolate dominates but coffee pulls on the coat tali. A flavor that is semi sweet but pushes to a very good bitter finish. A beer that has good carbonatiion and the mouthfeel is very solid not slick or chewy but just very solid. Overall this is an excellent example of the style. crushinat0r (227), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2007 Super black, with a thin brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, wow. Tastes exactly as expected, very complex and very smooth. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA Jul 30, 2007 Dark brown/clear black, with a short-lived tan head. Oddly light nose, a bit roasty, hint of soy, touch of red wine. Flavor is medium sweet, with a good bit of roasted malt, some chocolate notes. Alcohol is very well-hidden. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jul 26, 2007 wow...this one was okay, but seems to be a tad overated on this site...seems like an overly bitter and hopped-fused chocolate stout...the dark chocolate comes across as being overly bitter, yet artificially sweet...semi-enjoyable, but a half a bottle is enough... bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jul 26, 2007 Great beer. Pours a pure midnight-black with no head. Aroma of fine dark chocolate, black cherries, blackberries, roasted malt and a hint of espresso bean. Very smooth, although not quite as thick as hoped for. The flavors are spot on with the aroma except for the addition of a bit of vanilla bean. Slight alcohol burn on the finish along with a slight hazelnut quality. Very well balanced stout. Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 25, 2007 Black, tan head. Aroma of coffee and molasses. Thick mouth feel. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, very malty. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA Jul 24, 2007 Updated: Jan 5, 2008Pours a dark oily black. Not entirely opaque around the edges. Flavor is roasty, but creamy. Chocolate is definetely there. Its nice and smooth, not too overpowering. Mouthfeel is fairly creamy. A really enjoyable impy.
