Commercial Description:
A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.
Available in February & March.

Great malt-hop balance gives this a silky, dry, oily, dark chocolate, burnt expresso flavor. Top notch.

At my 2007 Impy Stout Tasting. Thanks to bditty187 for the beer. Pours black with a dark beige big head. Has an oatmeal and chocolate roasted aroma. Flavor is solid with a sweet candy chocolate taste. Medium thickness. A fairly flawless, but yet not eccentric little stout. May 2004 vintage. Extremely yummy and devoid of anything that can detract from a great score.

Pours out black with a moderate fluffy tan head, nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and slight chocolate. Roasty on the taste with some burnt malts, coffee and little more chocolate. Slight sweetness lingering in the background. Nice beer.

Bottle, pours a dark brown/black with a nice dark tan head, good lacing. Aroma of roasted/burnt malts, nuts, and lesser notes of chocolate and espresso. Flavor is more of the same, darkly roasted malts, with some detectable hoppiness, espresso, and nutiness. Pleasing on the palate with silky medium mouthfeel and clean, well balanced finish. Not super complex, but stands up well in it’s own right, a very enjoyable beer; recommended.

Pours muddy black with a rocky light brown head. Aroma is very malty, cookies, roasted malst, nutty, dark chocolate strong coffee, leather and hints of earth and broth. Flavor starts on the sweet side, but still a good balance, chocolate malts, nutty flavor and hints of coffee. Medium to full bodied, and creamy.

Bottle. Deep black body with medium high viscosity and a small, silky tan head. Aroma and flavor of espresso, raisin, premium dark chocolate, sweet caramel, and moderate roast. Significant residual sweetness, which is also apparent in the texture. Rich and complex sipper. This is a very nice imperial stout that I’m glad to have regular access to.

Big 20 oz glass of this stuff for $5 at Mad Mex. Pour is very nice, like used shovelhead oil. Very little head but the heads color is dark tan. A slight roasty vinegar aroma greets the nose. Very bitter and coarse. The alky content rears its head right off the bat. Flat with little or any detectable carbonation. Taste is your typical imp stout and I’m still not sure why this style is so desirable on this sight. So medicinal and infringing on the taste buds. Fusel and whiskeylike at times. Feel quite like Lion stout. Does anybody have a stick that I can scrape the tar off the back of my throat? Finish is lingering medicinal bitterness that keeps going and going, like the energizer bunny. My uvula is crying for a chaser of icewater.
