Commercial Description:
A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.
Available in February & March.

12 oz bottle from my friend Liz’s mom who drove this from Ohio all the way to Cali, Thanks. Glad to have this brew also considering I suffered (wording?) through that Blackout for 29 hours with out power. Pours beautifally into a big DFH snifter, black black black with a big pillowy light tan head. The aroma is full of maltiness, smoke and a bit of burnt something. The taste is quite nice, with a rounded chocolate flavor that complements the coffee notes in the taste. This is a damn good impy, yummers.

Bottles on sale at Whole Foods. Beautiful dark browm (nearly black) pour. Nice spice aroma w/hints of coffee. Big bold aromatic flavors of roast coffee, malt & chocolate. This stout ranks high on my list. Would drink it again anytime.

Bottle thanks to DrBayern! Pours a dark black color with a nice tan head on top. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, caramel, and coffee. Flavor is roasted malts and coffee, hints of sweet chocolate come in as well. The flavor is primarily roasty with sweetness coming in too. A very smooth imperial stout with not much of a sign of alcohol or syrupy thickness. I would like to drink this during a blackout!

Pours a deep black color, and hints of lacing. Has hints of roasted malts and coffee. You can sense some chocalate. Very smooth drinking for a full bodied beer.

Bottle best before 7-03-07. Purchased at Giant Eagle in Mentor, OH. Was I behind you at the checkout? Small world! This stout was fantastic. SO perfectly balanced I’m not certain of the right words. I would say a little more smokey than roasty, but it was a sweeter smokey than usual. It can go down so fast. The definition of will power is drinking this one slowly.

Bottle best before 7-03-07. Purchased at Giant Eagle in Mentor, OH. Pours black with huge brown head, nice lacing. Aroma of dark roast and coffee. Nice medium full texture, with some smooth creaminess. Lots of burnt flavor, with some chocolate and dark roast coffee in the background. Bitter finish with notes of vanilla, and a slight fizziness going down. Not bad. Lots of flavor without being thick or syrupy.

12oz. bottle from Premier Gourmet. The beer poured a dark black and had a soft tan head. The stout’s aroma is dominated by roasted malts with just a hint of vanilla. The beer has a very smooth texture and the taste is very chocolatey with some charred espresso in the background. Goes down incredibly easy.

12 ounce bottle form bgburdman. Pours chocolatey brown and forms and inky black mass in the snifter. An aggressive pour resulted in barely enough fizzy light brown head to even comment about. Fairly complex aroma. The typical roast, char, and dark chocolate are present. I can also find some burnt tobacco, smokey character. Tastes sort of like my morning mochaccino, with a touch of milk. There some smokey flavors as well. They come off more on the BBQ side. Mostly balanced over the palate. Pretty good beer.
