OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Jul 15, 2009 [Bottle] Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is huge on mocha, and also has macademia nuts, faint port notes, alcohol, and molasses. Taste is big on dark chocolate, before transitioning to roasted malt, light anise, good bitterness, alcohol and a touch of plum. Very long finish of roasted malt, and good thick mouthfeel. A very nice imperial stout that perhaps is just a little too heavy on the roasted malt, but is otherwise enjoyable. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Jul 14, 2009 Pours a deep, warm, opaque sable that is just a red tomcat whisker above black. Head is thick and dark tan, but disappears quickly - half a point off there. Aroma is rich and fills the nose with smoke, fine coffee, unsweetened chocolate and molasses. Flavor does not disappoint - rich and lip-smacking, it is like fine roast coffee mixed with unsweet chocolate, a hint of charcoal and a touch of molasses. Texture is thick, oily, smooth and lively so it doesn’t just slide down the pipes but fairly dances its way to the tummy. A must for all stouties! juiceisloose (640), Windermere, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2009 Pours a dark brown almost black body with a foamy tan head that slowly settles to a thin film. The aroma shows huge amounts of milk and dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and cream. The flavor is just as nice and complex with milk chocolate, rich, dark fruits, roasted coffee, and cream all blended together nicely. Some earthy hops add a touch of bitterness and balance out the sweetness. Medium bodied and very smooth on the palate with a long, roasty finish. This is a very nice base beer to the barrel aged version. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 13, 2009 Bottle shared with Devonshire gents- Black pour with thin tan head. Robust aroma and flavor give a rich sense of rum, coco, with dark fruits and a smooth malt flavor. Great drinker that lacks only a certain something to put it at the top. Gorgeous character with huge homemade rye bread head. Espresso dark body that pours like motor oil. Meaty beaty big and bouncy.
Strong coffee bean aroma with slight pine and fairly grassy hop aroma - Heavy charred malt with slight molasses kick. Surprisingly very clean.
Sweet, creamy ultra-roasted malt with mocha/chocolate syrup and lots of BBQ char. This is solid, well-balanced stuff.
Mouthfeel is luxurious. Full and deep coffee and slight earthy feel with a clean, powerful, long finish.
For the wallop and extra full flavor of this offering it is very clean drinking. One of the best...this is prime real estate.

beerchugger (286), Colorado, USA Jun 29, 2009 Opaque black in color with a nice head that lasts throughout. Smells of chocolate and rich roasted coffee and a very rich malt background. Oily mouthfeel. Deep rich chocolate with bitter roasted malts make this beer fairly complex with other flavors of toffee, figs, raisins, and maybe a hint of vanilla. Has a nice warming effect. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA Jun 15, 2009 Pours a near black brown with thin tan head that sticks around for a little while, minimal lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, decent hops, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is similar with the addition of caramel, slight sweetness, and a bit of dried fruit. A bit warm, not sure if it needs to age and mellow or if that is how it will stay. Very solid otherwise.
