virgil23 (14), Michigan, USA Sep 25, 2006 Absolutely delicious. Poured dark, thick and fragrant. Smells of smoke and dark chocolate. Taste does not disappoint-- chocolate, vanilla, coffee and dark fruit. Alcohol content is well masked. An all around solid imperial stout. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 24, 2006 Big tan head. Pitch black and big roasted coffee aroma. Slight burned wood smells as well. Roasted malt overpowers. Hardly notice the alcohol. Bittersweet chocolate taste lasts for a while. edfitz (114), Toledo, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2006 Great beer. Dry malts and alcohol make this a can’t miss. try it if you can. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Sep 22, 2006 Bottle @ Kookfest. Burnt roasty malts and vanilla. Dryish and bitter roasty finish. Quite pleasant but doesnt seem to do much with its strength. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Sep 21, 2006 Bottle, thanks Kevin! Pours oily black, thin brown lacing. Aroma is astringent alcohol in a good way, vanilla, creme, soft roastiness. Taste is molassis, licorice, roasted malt. Nice lingering alcohol and light hops in the finish. Body is oily, thick, yet not cloying. Very nice stuff. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Sep 17, 2006 Pours pitch-black; tannish head with attractive lacing. Plenty of coffee, dark chocolate in the nose. Medium-to-full, chocolatey mouthfeel, smoky qualities, vanilla notes; not up to the BA version, which is a different world altogether. Medium, dark chocolate finish. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Sep 16, 2006 (12oz bottle, thanks kmweaver) Medium beige head, black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, burnt caramel, bittersweet chocolate, plum, light coffee. Taste is medium sweet, chocolate, coffee, some roast, burnt. Light alcohol burn. Medium body. ChristianSA (368), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 16, 2006 Bottle. Pitch black with a brown head dragging nice lacing. Slightly sour and fruity nose with no apparent alcohol. Flavor is massive with lots of licorice, burned sugar and some dark chocolate and hints of lactic acid. Quite sweet almost sugary. The hops are noticeable, but not overwhelming. Viscous mouth feel with smooth carbonation. Long bitter/roasted aftertaste with warming alcohol which is felt, but not smelled or tasted. Not very complex, but rich and wonderful stout with hints of a beginning infection, which I’m not going to bring it down for, as it actually suits the beer and because it is my own fault for having it at room temp. for several months. Recommended.
