moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Jul 13, 2006 "I absolutely love this stout. It pours pitch black, and has a strong, full aroma. You can smell the roasty malt and coffee aromas very clearly. The taste is the kicker though. It has a full, malty, heavily coffee flavor, with practically no aftertaste whatsoever. Quixote18 (230), Johnson City, Tennessee, USA Jul 12, 2006 Gurgling from bottle to tulip glass, this ebony gem formed a moderately lasting deep brown head. A heavy haze of roasty malt and black licorice aroma eventually gives way to some sweet molasses as it warms. For the flavor I hava a hard time picking out much over the nearly "burnt tasting" roasty malt, but I did detect a vague sweetness. Very full bodied! skoisirius (570), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 9, 2006 12 oz bottle into a Snifter glass (thanks to demistriustown!!!). Pours a thick looking dark black with no head except for a almost non-existent tan line around the sides of the glass. The aroma is very roasted with notes mainly of coffee and dark malt. There is a background sweet note of vanilla as well. The flavor is very well balanced and very loud consisting a lot of what the nose brings. Heavy coffee and dark roasted malt notes on first taste, which chills out a bit into a tiny bit of chocolate and a light hop kick near the finish. The coffee lingers for quite a bit after the sips. Reminds me almost of a Russian Imperial Stout, but without as much alcohol taste. The 9% can definitely be tasted, but does not hit you as hard. Definitely a solid, solid stout. Very thankful demitriustown shipped this one over! kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2006 Bottle. Poured an opaque brown with a light brown head that would lace attractively. A dark roast chocolate secent dominated. A very roasty flavor with a mouthfilling maltiness upfront and a dry smokey finish. A slight alcohol bite and a gentle tingle round out this smooth and tasty stout. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jul 5, 2006 Pours with almost no head, that eventually dissappears into nothingness. Aroma is lactic, strong vanilla, pepper, sucrose, licorice. In the mouth there is a saliva-sucking effect, similar to that found when eating pumello or pomegranite... flavor is vanilla-y, cherry, licorice, totally off-kilter and off balance. Don’t know if something’s gone wrong with my bottle or what but this isn’t too pleasant at all, and hardly reminiscent of any other stouts I’ve drank. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Jul 5, 2006 Robust coffee and semi-sweet chocolate, with some mild banana and spice notes. Also some over-ripe fruit and vanilla in there. I’ve had a lot of imperial stouts lately, and this one stands out. Very good. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 5, 2006 Pours a black with a medium tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, a little alcohol, raisins and caramel (not malt--the chewy candy). Doesn’t smell roasty bitter at all. Flavors much the same, bitter coffee in the finish. Vanilla not too big. Full bodied and creamy, soft carbonation. Delicious. Cliff (355), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA Jun 27, 2006 Updated: Nov 30, 2006what an excellent imperial stout. poured black with a tan head. retained head throughout. dark chocolate flavors, coffee, carmel with a little bit of vanilla. strong hop prescence that is very well balanced with the rich maltyness. great beer and i anxiously await the next release in the winter.
