mvp (74), Harper Woods, Michigan, USA Jun 8, 2006 Bought 4 pack bottles. Used shaker. Nice flavor. One of the bottles I poured in a tulip. This is when all the good aromas and flavors came out. I can smell a hint of cinnamon. Highly recomend drinking out of a snifter or tulip. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA May 21, 2006 Bottle. Other than the live carbonation, the body is black as night. Roasted notes, also licorice, vanilla, cocoa. Another smooth stout, and hard to notice the 9% ABV. Good and warming. As far as Imperial Stouts go, I can’t see this as being any better than average. I guess I was expecting more, although most of the Imp Stouts I’ve had are top of the line, so I guess the lower score is expected, now seeing that this is 67.4% for the style. I do like the somewhat tangy hoppy bitter finish here. Decent. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA May 19, 2006 i like my stouts and this is a good imperial stout not too sweet and bitter very smooth and drinkable i will enjoy more DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2006 Thanks to Ohio Dad for this one. The pour was obsidian, with 2-finger brown head. Aroma of huge dark roasty malt, chocoff, some brown sugar, and ints of maduro cigar tobacco. The flavor was roasty dark malty, with a rich chocolate syrup element coupled with espresso, molasses, and slight brown sugar. The mouth was rich, creamy, complex, and in my mind, not deductible. If you like big stouts, you’ll like this. cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA May 18, 2006 via trade with Ohiodad - Pours a deep brown with a faint tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Light chocolate, roasted flavor. Not as estery as some of the other IS. I like that. Very smooth and easy to drink. Very good beer. Thanks Scott. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA May 15, 2006 Black. Dense, light brown head. Aroma and flavor of smores, roasted malt, dark fruits, anise, subtle alcohol, vinous notes, and slightly resinous hops. Full, smooth body. Great stuff. Have to try the barrel aged. stoutchap (297), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 11, 2006 Pours dark, dark brown. Some roasted malt in the nose and again on the tongue. Some chocolate and coffee. Sweet middle, and bitter finish. Not as strong of a flavor wollop as most Imperials. A little subdued. Nice Label. noelcb (271), Toledo, Ohio, USA May 10, 2006 Dark, Dark, Dark. Like Dr. Pepper in the glass. Enthusiastic, albeit short-lived big rocky tan head. Aromas of crackers, black bread, coffee, molasses, roasted malt, alcohol and hops. Huge flavor -- massive malt, hills of hops, sweet, malty, chocolately, bitter blend of power and grace. The malt is wonderfully roasted and full of maltose and caramel and the hops lend a pleasant herbal background with a wallop of bitterness. On the mouth, it’s thick, rich and full. Not a sessioner. Like a barleywine with balls, I suppose. Thoroughly enjoyable.
