slitcher (88), Freeport, Illinois, USA Jun 11, 2009 Pours black as coal with a medium tan head. Chocolate, coffee and brown sugar; taste is the same. Very creamy and smooth; extrememly drinkable for the style. Very nice. Another winner from Great Lakes. fromred2green (141), , Ohio, USA Jun 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours coal black/pitch black with a medium tan head. Aroma is of coffee with a small amount of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is coffee, sweet chocolate, and a hint of alcohol. Best Imperial Stout I’ve ever had, very drinkable and smooth for this style, and for any beer with a 9% ABV for that matter. Would reccommend to anyone. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Jun 9, 2009 Draft@DiMarco’s, Uniontown, PA->honker. Pours a off-white head atop a black body. Chocolate aroma and taste. Very enjoyable, however it is a little thick on the palate. I’d say pretty middle of the road for this class of beer. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 8, 2009 12oz bottle. Opaque pitch black. Very smooth, mellow, and roasty. Some coffee in the aroma. Easy drinking for the style, very creamy, almost lactic. I like this one because its no nonsense, no syrupy overly cocoa..none of that. Classic Imp Stout. Well done. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Jun 4, 2009 pours pitch black with small tan head. aroma is coffee, toffee and lots of chocolate. drinks with tons of semisweet chocolate and mild coffee. has a nice rich toffee sweetness bringing up the back end. finishes light on the tongue but leaves great chocolate flavor. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 2, 2009 Bottle in the hotel on the way to the airport to avoid having to pack it. Tasted along with Founders Breakfast Stout. Pours black with a nice tan head that fades to lasting large bubbles. Smells like smoky roasted malts and chocolate. Taste adds vanilla and molasses. Medium- to full-bodied and slightly astringent. punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA May 29, 2009 Very dark brown pour that lets just a hint of light through with a big, loose tan head. Aroma of cocoa powder, dark fruit, booze and day old cofee. More cocoa in the flavor along with some hints of toffee, raisins, rum, butterscotch, alcohol and stale coffee. The body is oily and too thin for an imperial. It’s overcabonated as well. It’s not offensive or bad but it just falls short on every point I want in a good impy. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2009 Bottle shared by TheCaptain, thanks Mark. Pitch black pour topped by a thin head. The smell and flavor were both filled with rum soaked dark chocolate, plum, licorice, and raisin. Big presence in the mouth, nice and smooth as well. Very nice though maybe a tad too simple. I would gladly drink it again anytime though.
