papajohn (1054), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA May 23, 2009 Bomber provided by Joey at AleSmiths tasting bar. Black color has a medium tan head. Aroma of rich dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor starts with coffee followed by dark chocolate and a bakers chocolate bitter finish. Full body is creamy with soft carbonation. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 15, 2009 On tap at the Sugar Maple in Milwaukee. Perfect black pour with a couple of fingers worth of tan head. Frothy even. Molasses, coffee, brown sugar, and baker’s chocolate flavor with a strong bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Damn tasty. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 15, 2009 Opaque brown-black pour, moderate pale beige head, OK retention, only temporary lace. Aroma heavily roasted, a lot of licorice and dark chocolate. Aromas travel well, are long lasting, almost palpable in their bitterness. Flavor emphasizes the tree-fruit angle of roast malt, cherry pits, licorice, horehound candy. The bittersweet roast malts segue nicely with a pronounced bitter-orange hop presence. Dark chocolate backbone beneath it all. Full bodied, smooth and creamy on the palate. WVHouseofBeer (337), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA May 10, 2009 Updated: May 11, 2009Wow. Got the brew from the GLBC Brewpub in Cleveland, great place! Pours a smooth dark brown that leaves a thin yet sustainable head. The Blackout has a wonderful and creamy taste for being an Imperial. As the beer first touches the tongue the signature roasted malts and hops flash across the palate but then the flavor turns to a sweet almost condensed milk type of taste with a slight bitterness. Absolutely delicious, and even better on draught! One of my favorites! ericandersnavy (1039), crossroads, Texas, USA May 7, 2009 bottle dated oct 1, 2006 thanks to lumpy and his 18 year old japenese girl fetish. poured black with a thin fading beige head. aroma of caramel, dark roasts, toffee, and vanilla. flavor raped my mouth with the same qualities as the nose with the addition of alcohol. medium slick body with low carbonation. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA May 4, 2009 I got this bottle as an extra from kirok1999 and poured it into a 10oz Sam Smith nonic. Dark black with red tints at the edge of the glass so I guess it isn’t a blackout after all. There is a "sticky" smell to it if that makes any sense and maybe yeasty dough. The flavor has a hoppiness to it and is pretty good, not too thick or syrupy at all. Very easy to drink. This is my first Great Lakes beer and it is pretty good, I’ll have to check out their other offerings.

Very reminiscent of the Old Rasputin in its rich chocolate aroma and coffee upfront in the flavor, albeit not as big as Old Rasputin. Surprisingly thin pour and not too thick, which I didn’t mind; dark ebony w/ a small beige head (don’t think the pour did the head justice though). Malty, roasty, dominated by coffee and milk chocolate. I maintain that Great Lakes is a very underrated brewery. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA May 2, 2009 Bottle thanks to ericanders via Lumpy. Pours a deep black with faint ruby hues and dark tan head. Aroma is very interesting on this one, a mixture of alot of dark roast, baking chocolate, a faint citrus in the background almost covered with the alcohol. Flavor is great, alot of dark roasted malt, semi-sweet, baking chocolate, alcohol, and perhaps a faint amount of pecan shell.....Mouth feel is nice, full, heavy body with low carbonation, slight silk. Over all, very good shit!!!!!!!
