ditmier (1023), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 12, 2009 2008 Bottle - Thanks DrHomolka! - Pours almost black with a small tan head...aroma is dry cocoa, vanilla malt, dark pit fruit and light roast...flavour follows, with some dominant fruit and sweet chocolate, roasty goodness...finish is terrific...this beer is just absurd...loved it!!! shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2009 Bottle. smooth I really enjoyed this beer. Sweet. some coffee chocolate. thanks Tweety (337), Vancouver, Washington, USA Mar 28, 2009 Thanks to JCB for this one, a supurb imperial stout that I really enjoyed. I could see how people would have problems with the sweetness (of which there’s a lot), but I didn’t find it overpowering, on the contrary, I found it very enjoyable. Gonna get more of this one in the future. AndyReynolds (280), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Mar 28, 2009 12 oz Bottle. Poured a thick black with very little head. Aroma was strong with coffee and roasted malts, with chocolate notes. I also detecteed hints of dark fruit. The flavor is strong with coffee and is strong the whole way through. Better than I thought it would be, considering I am not a huge fan of Great Lakes. flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Mar 24, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a lightish tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, coffee, creamy vanilla, chocolate. Flavor is a balance of dark fruit, cocoa, and coffee with some hops in the finish. Blackout Stout has more dark fruit character than the average imperial stout, and it’s an excellent imperial stout; just a little bit too light on the flavor to be amazing. DMBlunts (6), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA does not count Mar 21, 2009 Wow. Got the brew from the GLBC Brewpub in Cleveland, great place! Pours a smooth dark brown that leaves a thin yet sustainable head. The Blackout has a wonderful and creamy taste for being an Imperial. As the beer first touches the tongue the signature roasted malts and hops flash across the palate but then the flavor turns to a sweet almost condensed milk type of taste with a slight bitterness. Absolutely delicious, and even better on draught! One of my favorites! roborb (59), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Mar 10, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of Mike, thanks brother!
This beer pours a deep black with a long lasting 1 inch thick brown head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, chocolate and a very vibrant fruit. The taste follows the aroma with a very prominent malt presence and a bitter follow through. This was a great example of a RIS and I would love to try the barrel aged version of this. danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA Mar 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep ruby black with a modest khaki head. Nose is full of rich roasted malts, chocolate, and oak. Flavors are heavy with a roasted board line on burnt malt with a nice spice from the hops. Vanilla hints come in as well. Mouth is really fully with a long sticky to dry finish, becomes a bit more alcohol and bitter finish towards the end. Excellent RIS, with a deep roasted malt and hop accents!
