4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours predictably pretty dark black but does have a hint of ruby red with no head and a thin ring of lacing. Smells of milk chocolate, raisin, roasted coffee, dark bready malts, soy sauce, some pine. Taste starts with raisin, some dark chocolate, coffee. Then get more raisin, as well as plum, some pine, some breadiness. Then the finish includes, a little pine or grapefruit, roasted malt, some coffee, milk chocolate, little heat, some carmel, little soy sauce, maybe some licorice but I could just be imagining that. Pretty complex with a full body and a creamy and slick mouthfeel. Good amount of carbonation, but too much in my opinion. This is a very solid imperial stout that is on the verge of world class.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap in Rochester at the brewfest. Old rating notes. Thick, rich and creamy with huge malt flavors, coffee, chocolate. Relatively sweet but balanced well by burntness and alcohol. Very nice.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 30, 2014 Strong coffee and less chocolate than most stouts. The high alcohol gives it a very nice palate. I like how it foams brown too. Got for $9.99 for 4 pack.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
355 ml bottle. BBE 18.03.2013.
Pours ruby red (out) color with a small head. Nice chocolaty and coffee-infused aroma, some dark roasted malts with faint licorice, faint fruity notes too. Creamy smooth palate, vanilla and cocoa on the flavor, some wood, dark roasty malts and chocolate. Soft carbonation. Good but I hoped for even more, seems that this not stand the test of time.

355ml bottle from a trade, thanks cp45!
BBE 03/18/13 -
Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, dark chocolate, cocoa, hints of cardboard. Taste is roasty, malty and dark chocolatey with notes of cocoa and espresso. Finish is sweetish, roasty and malty with some cocoa and dark chocolate notes. Feels a bit old, perhaps this would be better fresh.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
355 ml bottle. Pours a black colour with a beigeish creamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, some red berries, wood and chocolate. Flavour of roasted malts, pungent red berries, some wood, dark chocolate and grains. Medium bodied and a warming roasty finish. Low carbonation. Alcohol comes through. BBE 2013 and this does taste old. Not at it’s best anymore.

Medium to big sweet flavor with smooth, sugary chocolate, some burnt earth, raisins and dark berries, low bitterness. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary dark malt finish with hefty burnt bread, milk chocolate, moderate scorched earth, raisins, dark berries. Solid. Robust and quite drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Jet black, light-mocha head showing decent retention on top; little to no lacing. Aroma is a nice hybrid of creamy roastiness, mild campfire sweetness, burnt & toasted barley, sweet chocolates, mild char, woodsy tones... Heavy, robust. Great balance between the heavy roast & the offsetting sweet elements. Silky, smooth, creamy mouth feel. Roasted barley, earthy hops, mild campefire-like smokiness, black licorice, a hint of dates... Lots of complexity. Notes reminiscent of coffee join towards the back-end, mild cream & sugar sweetness with just a touch of roast. Molasses, faint syrup. Again, great balance with both noticeable amounts of roastiness & sweetness. Lingering ashy char. Delicious stout.
