Clear dark brown with a frothy head. Aroma is dry blackened malts with dark cocoa. Smooth light/medium body. Nice flavors of black malts, cocoa, with some coffee bitterness to finish. Like their Fitz porter a bit better than this.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Thorpe429 (4844) - , Illinois, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Pours a deep black with a nice mocha head and a bit of lacing as it goes down. Initial nose is plenty of roasted malt followed up by dark chocolate, caramel/toffee, and hints of molasses. Taste is nice. Some sweetness is added in, which dilutes some of the nuances of the nose. Mouthfeel is nice, thick, and chewy. Very drinkable. A very solid stout for how widely available it is.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin brown head. Aroma is full roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate and just a slight hint of licorice. Flavor begins with light sweet chocolate and a bit of sweet grain, but coffee and roasted malts lead to a more powerful finish.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thedm (4773) - Fort Wayne, USA - MAR 26, 2004
This bottled brew from Masterbreuer poured a very large sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that left behind a fair lace. The body was a dark opaque black color with no visible carbonation. The aroma was mild with malt and molasses notes. The mouth feel was strong with a good malt hop bite to it, tingly at the start and smoothing in the finish. The flavor was thick with dark malt notes. It has a very good feel to it and quite a kick too.

Bottle - thanks to Pailhead! Pours black with a small brown head. Nose is dark roasted malts, burnt chocolate chip cookies, dark chocolate, light coffee, hint of licorice and molasses. Taste is very rich. Light coffee, milk chocolate, roasted malts, double chocolate chip cookies, molasses, dark alcohol soaked fruits and dark bread. Body is smooth with a relaxed carbonation feel and a lingering bitterness. Lots of dark fruits and brown sugar during the finish along with more roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee, and light licorice. Nice beer!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 crossovert (4536) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 4, 2011
12 oz bottle, 2010 vintage.
Pours into my snifter a thick, dark blackish brown. The head is thick and tan with lots of large and small bubbles. It stays a long tie before receding and leaving behind lacing.
The smell is perhaps a bit underwhelming. It is heavy on bready dark malt scent with a bit of alcohol and sugar. There is also some faint chocolate, coffee, and raisin.
The mouthfeel is big and thick. The taste is predominantly roasted dark chocolate with some coffee. There is a light hop bite and some dark fruitiness and alcoholic kick. The end of the mouthfeel is slightly cloying.
This is a good RIS but there are better ones out there, I am eager to try this with some age on it however as it might just be too fresh. I also would like to try the BA version.

Chocolate sweetness contrasts with roasty bitterness with coffee-like tones in the aroma. Opaque black body with a ring of brown head that recedes with some sudsy lacing. Strongly roasty flavour with some bready malts holds together well. Chocolate marries well with roastiness with a lightly grapey, fruity note. Strong carbonation that is forceful on the tongue is somewhat distracting. Medium-full body. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
