App.: Black with ruby tones, small light mocha head.
Aroma: Delicious milk chocolate, medium-roasted coffee, hints of vanilla, a bit ashen, slightly fruity (grapes).
Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Big chocolate and coffee, soy sauce savoury, some minerals, a touch of wood and alcohol; fairly sweet but in balance with the bitterness, coffee and burnt sugar linger.
Big beer, nice stuff, highlight of the festival for me. oberabcbbsok (682), Hoboken, Belgium Sep 1, 2008 On draft at Airport in Cleveland. A very nice stout. Full bodied and tastes of choclate’, coffee and alcohol. Very nice one yesyouam (352), Fairport, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Sampled at the Flour City Brewers’ Fest 2008. Great Lakes Blackout Stout is a reddish black ale with a leathery, brown sugar colored head. The aroma is of licorice, dark roast coffee, mint and alcohol. It is full bodied and creamy in the mouth. The finish is dry. The flavor has notes of alcohol, licorice, chocolate and black currant. It kind of reminds me of Old Rasputin. I think this was the highlight of the Brewers’ Fest.
